In light of the recent presidential election, The Untitled Space gallery will be presenting an exhibition titled "ANGRY WOMEN" curated by Indira Cesarine featuring the work of female contemporary artists responding to the current social and political climate. The exhibit will take place from January 17- 22nd of 2017, opening the week of the presidential inauguration, with several events to take place including an opening reception and panel discussion.

The 2016 election has brought to the surface extremes of sexism, racism and discrimination. A dark cloud looms over those who respect ideals of equal rights, human dignity and humanitarianism. A resounding number of people are feeling a heavy weight of anxiety and sadness as well as a newfound sense of urgency and determination to be more involved and socially aware. Artists are encouraged to empower themselves and others with works for the “Angry Women” exhibit that respond to the political and social climate as well as explore themes revolving around feminism today and female empowerment.

The “ANGRY WOMEN” exhibit is presented in partnership with the ERA COALITION, a political organization that is working to support passage and ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, and will additionally benefit their Fund for Women’s Equality. The gallery will be donating 25% of proceeds from the exhibit to further their initiative. The Fund for Women’s Equality is a charitable organization working to raise awareness on gaps in the law that leave women without legal recourse from sex discrimination, and developing educational resources on the need for a constitutional provision to protect and promote equal rights for women. Founded by Jessica Neuwirth, author of “Equal Means Equal”, the ERA Coalition board also includes Gloria Steinem, Teresa Younger and many other prominent women’s rights activists. The Fund for Women’s Equality promotes legal and lived equality in the United States by increasing public understanding of the need for comprehensive, fair and equal treatment of women and girls under the law and the need to end sex inequality in all its forms. For more information visit them online at www.eracoalition.org.

20+ artists will be selected for the exhibit, which is open to submissions. Artists must be female or female identifying. Artists may submit up to 5 works of art for consideration. Acceptable mediums include photography, painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, video, weaving, among others.

Deadline for submissions is December 10, 2016. New works created in 2016 in response to the election will be prioritized.

All accepted entries will be featured in the exhibition at The Untitled Space gallery, on The Untitled Space website, including an artist bio and description of the work as well as on Artsy.net among other media outlets.
