TRE-ART-SURES (The Vargas Permanent Art Collection)
Vargas Gallery is proud to present a selection of works from the university’s permanent collection for its next exhibition. “The Vargas collection represents years of eclectic acquisition and will present gallery goers an array of works in a variety of media by a broad selection of highly skilled artists,” said Henry Ballate Art & Design Programs Coordinator, who together with Annie Saldaña has curate this exhibition. The show serves as an introduction to a diverse collection that is rarely exhibited together.
The collection features a selection of works that includes artists from Egypt, Germany, Lithuania, Austria, Netherlands, Poland, Iran, Puerto Rico, and USA, with the intention of providing the community a representation of what is being produced today by artists around the globe. The artists explore an array of mediums including photography, painting, screen-printing, everyday objects and sculptures, as well as an ample variety of subject matters like nostalgia, existentialism, cultural contradictions, faith and more. This exhibition is meant to be viewed as an exploration of the individual’s art making process in the contemporary artworld.
Much of the collection is made up of generous gift from artist and many of these pieces have been part of a four-year concentrated effort by the gallery to reframe and conserve them. This effort was undertaken in order to prepare them for exhibit and preserve them for future generations.
Vargas Gallery is the Vargas University professional art gallery coordinated by Vargas University Department of Art and its faculty. Our mission is to encourage students, faculty members and the local community to participate in a creative environment that exhibits works of art, which engage participants in dialogues with the contemporary art world. Vargas Gallery exhibits the work of national and internationally recognized professional artists as well as emerging artists.
