Vulnerability In Creativity with Jlin

CAMP is a residential arts facility in the French Pyrenees. It's a place where great art is made, new movements are formed, new ideas are explored and groundbreaking people are nurtured. CAMP is located in Aulus les Bains, the last village before the France/Spain Pyrenean frontier chain. The location is spectacular - we are nestled at 750m above sea level, surrounded by snowcapped peaks over 3000m high, ancient forests and cascading waterfalls. There are eagles, lammergeiers, vultures, ibex and bears. Walk out of the residency, and within ten minutes you are completely alone in one of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in Europe. Aulus les Bains is also a spa village - there are hot water springs, and a thermal spa in the village to take advantage of the healing and relaxing properties of the water.

This unique session is best summed up in Jlin’s own words:

"My 5-week course will be based around you the artist evolving your sound, and learning to trust yourself. I want each artist to feel comfortable knowing that they have a different journey. Your craft is not a game of speed, but a marathon that requires discipline, consistency, tenacity, and most importantly vulnerability. I look forward to meeting and interacting with each of you. 4. Why Am I Afraid to Trust My Sound?
5. Trusting Your Process vs. Trusting the Trend

Jlin first appeared on the international stage via Planet Mu's second Bangs & Works compilation, which had a huge impact on electronic/club music. Though she's known for bringing footwork to a wider audience, Jlin doesn't consider herself a footwork artist. Hailing from Gary, Indiana, a place close yet distant enough from Chicago to allow her to develop a different perspective on the genre, she has morphed its sounds into something entirely new. Released in 2015, her debut album Dark Energy's innovative sound propelled it to the top of many of the year's Best Of lists. Jlin's sophomore album Black Origami (2017)was released to even greater critical acclaim and attention. In 2018, Jlin composed the music for "Autobiography", a major new dance work by celebrated choreographer Wayne McGregor.
