Reaching New Audiences: Social Media and Exhibition Strategies for Artists

Description

A professional development event for artists focusing on two key aspects of successful self marketing: social media and exhibition strategies.

The day will be split into two parts, either side of lunchtime. Tickets may be purchased for either both parts, or just Part One.

Part One, Presentations:

To begin, Emma Walker, Communications Manager at Parker Harris, will take you through how social media can be utilised by artists and creatives to reach new and diverse audiences. The presentation will look specifically at social media as a tool for engaging collectors whilst exploring how relationships built through social media channels can serve as a foundation for new collaborations and exhibition opportunities.

Subsequently, Emma Parker and Penny Harris, founding partners of Parker Harris, will share their experience and knowledge as regards best practice for artists. They will discuss all aspects necessary for the building and maintenance of a professional and successful artistic career. Topics covered will include:

talking about your work

sourcing and taking best advantage of exhibiting opportunities

pricing your work

gallery representation

commissioning

Part Two, Surgeries:

After lunch, attendees will have the opportunity to take part in two separate one-to-one surgeries. Each surgery will last 20 minutes and will be led by a member of the Parker Harris team. One surgery will focus on social media, the other on exhibition strategies: both surgeries will function as mini mentoring sessions, providing each attendee with advice and guidance tailored to their own artistic practice.

Coffee, tea and biscuits will be available throughout the day - these will be provided free of charge. There will be a break for lunch (12:45 - 1:30pm). There is an onsite cafe at Drawing Projects UK, Miranda's coffee shop or other cafes, pubs and restaurants within walking distance.

This event is taking place in conjunction with the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2018, currently on display at Drawing Projects UK (until Friday 26th April).

Tickets £30-£50
