Emergence: Self Discovery from Flame to Form

A featured artist exhibition by ceramic artist Wendy Kusmaul Keeling. The artists utilizes various firing methods, including wood firing and gas reduction, alongside mixed media to create primitive and instinctual figures that delve into the central themes of the female journey. Emerging from recent loss and a rapidly changing world, her forms confront grief, trauma, and the need for protection, while striving toward self discovery, empowerment, and the reclamation of identity.

There is a special reception with the artist on September 21 from 4-6 pm.

Unseen Realities

A BWAC member exhibition, artists were invited to search within themselves to express and make visible that which is invisible; that is, to represent within their art what they consider to be those elements or characteristics which are inborn or inherited, and which have affected their lives.

Open weekends September 21 to October 13, 2024, from 1 to 6 pm

Ancestral Voices of the Americas and Beyond

A national juried exhibition, Ancestral Voices aims to celebrate heritage, ancestry, culture, traditions, and the stories of our diverse communities. It reflects the diverse cultural backgrounds and family histories of the artists, mirroring the beauty of tradition, fortitude, and resilience. The artwork depicts spiritual and ancestral practices, wisdom, knowledge, and artists' own tales of migration, settlement, and the ideals that have shaped their lives in modern society.

Open weekends September 21 to October 13, 2024, from 1 to 6 pm

Salon des Refusés 2024

In February 2024, the Brooklyn Museum announced an open call for artwork for an upcoming exhibition celebrating the institution’s 200th anniversary. Brooklyn-based artists were invited to submit artwork for consideration for "The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition.” In light of the many artists whose artwork was not selected for the Brooklyn Museum exhibition, BWAC is hosting a Salon des Refusés 2024 group exhibition to showcase some of these works. This exhibit will unite and uplift our artist community as well as complement the Brooklyn Museum show.

In The Neighborhood

In The Neighborhood presents the artists' perspectives and realities of their surroundings. Whether the artists chose to render images of architecture scenes, human interaction or atmospheric feelings, each piece represents the attachments human beings have for the place they spend their lives.
