ANTI-ART: The absence of Definition

Country:

Eligibility:

Anti-art is a loose term that is applied to artistic forms that question the existing accepted definition of art or questions art in general. Anti-artwork may criticize certain aspects of art or artistic standards overall. As the 2020s continue to challenge our values, change our ideals, and force us to think outside of the box. The Milostka Exhibition Center is curating an exhibit that showcases the absence of established artistic practices and historically celebrated aesthetics.

This is an open call for art and artists who challenge traditional or popular art forms. Artists who have been inspired by dadaism, constructivism, surrealism, lettrism, neodadism, and more. We are blurring the artistic modern boundaries with diverse forms of expression.

On the Rise: Art, Action and Climate Justice

Country:

Eligibility:

After decades of activism and multiple scientific studies that confirm the effects of climate change, we face now a global undeniable challenge to deal with the consequences of decades of environmental destruction.  Product of the impact of human actions on earth, climate change is a result of the increasing greenhouse gas emissions, the destruction of natural habitats, deforestation, pollution, animal agriculture, and contamination of soil and water. Drastically affecting life on earth, climate change will result in common floods, desertification,  the extinction of animal species, and also exacerbating the inequalities that already exist with the poverty of marginalized groups (such as indigenous communities around the world).

Elevating the power of art in climate justice, “On the Rise” it’s a platform to explore how we can collectively intervene on this subject. Therefore, considering contemporary art as a fundamental tool of communication to people, with the power to amplify emotions and generate thoughts and debates, this exhibition is developed to consider environmental solutions and let them inspire a collective attitude. Using art to inform, act and protest in this exhibition we aim to bring solutions to how collectively we can fight against climate change and environmental degradation. Perceiving art as a form of protest and catalyst for social change, “On the Rise” it’s an appeal for immediate action!

"Identity in Culture"

Eligibility:

Our identities are enlightened and influenced by a surfeit of factors. Social media, politics, technology, and social reform, among so many other attributes, make up various elements of each of our idiosyncratic and multifaceted selves. How have such factors influenced your selfhood? Why did this affect you in the way it did? What is something that had a more profound effect on yourself looking back on your journey than you realized? How have the arts affected, influenced, or encouraged your developing self-identity?

The arts have always been a place where individualism and the pursuit of finding oneself are valued. Reflecting on this, ‘Identity in Culture’ intends to provoke questions of what aspects of society greatly influence the self through various forms of art expressions and mediums.

We are looking for National and International artists to submit works for the upcoming "Identity in Culture". Emerging and mid-career artists are invited to submit their 2-d work and be considered to join our strong artistic community by exhibiting in our 360-degree 3-D gallery at the Milostka Center for Exhibitions.

"On our Lands: Artistic Production and Indigenous Rights"

Country:

Eligibility:

Colonizers and settlers have inflicted significant damage on Indigenous communities by dispossessing them of their lands and restricting their rights. They face numerous forms of oppression and discrimination, including degrading cultures and unstable economics.

Associated with many other social issues such as climate change, the permanent neglect of Indigenous rights resulted in the exclusion and marginalization of those communities. From the Amazon rainforest to aboriginal communities in Australia, currently, we estimate that 50 million Indigenous live in or depend on tropical rainforests. In fact, for centuries, Indigenous communities have stood as models of resistance against western policies, using their ancestral knowledge to protect their lands and natural resources.

Thus, "On our Lands: Artistic Production and Indigenous Rights", it's a project to share a safe space with Indigenous artists, to resist, claim their rights, celebrate their unique identities, and raise awareness about their histories. In this project, we aim to use art to unveil the present concerns of Indigenous communities linked with social and cultural issues such as structural racism, climate change, the denial of Indigenous culture, or any other subject that the artist considers necessary for this debate.

This call is open to all Indigenous/aboriginal and native artists regardless of age, gender, ethnicity/race, religion, sexual orientation, location, education, or other personal characteristics.
