"Polysemy: Dual Meanings In Contemporary Art"

Polysemy is the phenomenon of a singular word or phrase holding multiple meanings. The Gala Exhibition visually grapples with meaning and symbolism as interpreted through artwork. The duality of man and the double entendres evident in nature, among other subjects highlight the way dual meanings can both contradict, intertwine and evolve to introduce new interpretations. Subjects of morality, aesthetics, and human nature will be highlighted with an aim to spark discussion, emotion, and contemplation.

Culturally Arts Collective invites you to submit your artwork to the 2022 Gala Exhibition. This call is open to all individuals or groups from any country, background, and education level.

"On our Lands: Artistic Production and Indigenous Rights"

Colonizers and settlers have inflicted significant damage on Indigenous communities by dispossessing them of their lands and restricting their rights. They face numerous forms of oppression and discrimination, including degrading cultures and unstable economics.

Associated with many other social issues such as climate change, the permanent neglect of Indigenous rights resulted in the exclusion and marginalization of those communities. From the Amazon rainforest to aboriginal communities in Australia, currently, we estimate that 50 million Indigenous live in or depend on tropical rainforests. In fact, for centuries, Indigenous communities have stood as models of resistance against western policies, using their ancestral knowledge to protect their lands and natural resources.

"Out of Wounds: Art Uncovering Gender Violence"

Gender violence is a direct correlation to gender inequality; a social issue deriving from gender norms, and distinctions or assumptions made on biology. Gender violence includes sexual assault, rape, partner violence, sexual harassment, stalking, sex trafficking, and prostitution. Many people around the world experience a form of gender violence, with the majority being women.

“Out of Wounds: Art Uncovering Gender Violence,” is a platform to allow those who have, or have known someone who has experienced gender violence, to artistically express themselves and their views.  We encourage you to join us on this journey to gender equality, which aims to use art to uncover the multiple forms the patriarchal system uses to oppress women.

"Voyage-A Home Elsewhere"

It is said that after every trip, we are never the same as when we left.

As Maya Angelou wrote, “The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” We all seek security, protection, and comfort–but such does not look the same for all of us. When we leave, we know what we are leaving but we don't know what we will find. People travel to discover new places or to discover a dimension where they can be in harmony with themselves and with others.
In this process of evolution and rebirth that the journey determines in people's lives, the only sure thing is the baggage of experiences that each of them has accumulated over time and that guide them in the following actions.
