Bodies Luminous

Off the Page: Poetry Reimagined is producing Issue 2: Bodies Luminous—a literary arts magazine that also becomes a gallery exhibition. This issue is inspired by Diamond Forde’s poem fat girl Dances with a Stranger at a Block Party.”

We invite women and non-binary artists to submit artwork inspired by the poem and its themes.

We understand that our relationship to our bodies can be complicated, dysmorphic, beautiful, and evolving. We’re especially interested in pieces which celebrate the body. In Issue 2, we embrace expressions of joy and hope to foster a space where all bodies can be luminous.

Quiet, Piggy: We Cannot be Silenced | A Virtual Exhibition

Language has long been wielded as a weapon — misogynistic terms, often used by men, become instruments of control and erasure, with words used to diminish, demean, and silence women. Quiet Piggy: We Cannot Be Silenced is about the enduring power of art to confront disparaging language and reclaim agency.  The exhibition confronts the language of degradation head-on. The title Quiet Piggy is deliberately provocative: a derogatory term crudely tethered to negative connotations about the female body, horrifyingly used to shame, silence, and marginalize. By reframing and challenging this insult, the exhibition subverts the term into a narrative of resistance.

The Uncivil Canvas: Art in the Age of Discord

The Uncivil Canvas: Art in the Age of Discord invites artists working across all mediums to contribute to a collective visual essay that reflects our turbulent times through a feminist lens, in particular to reflect the lived experiences of women, children, and marginalized communities. We seek art that responds to the pressing issues that shape our global landscape: racial injustice, immigration, systemic inequities, criminal (in)justice, and stark imbalances in wealth, power, education, housing, and access to essential resources like food, water, healthcare and ongoing wars. We welcome pieces that confront the climate crisis, affirm women's rights, and celebrate gender diversity in all its forms.
