"Dark Frames." A Black & White Photography Virtual Exhibition

"Dark Frames" invites photographers to showcase their most compelling black and white images in an exhibition celebrating the timeless artistry of monochrome photography.

This open call seeks to explore how the absence of colour can enhance visual storytelling and reveal new dimensions in photographic expression.

Throughout history, black and white photography has been the cornerstone of the medium, capturing moments and stories before the advent of colour film. From classic portraits and historical events to everyday scenes, monochrome photography has a unique ability to focus on the fundamental aspects of light, shadow, and texture.

Getxophoto Open Call 2025

2025 GETXOPHOTO OPEN CALL

The 8th edition of Getxophoto’s Open Call offers visual artists and photographers from all over the world the opportunity to exhibit their work at the next edition of the Festival, to be held in June 2025. “REC” will be the theme of the 19th edition.

The jury, made up of Verónica Fieiras (Editor, founder of Chaco editorial and director of Escuela Migra), Carla Bacelar (Encontros da Imagem), María Wills (Independent curator) and María Ptqk (Getxophoto Festival), four women from Buenos Aires, Bogota, Braga and Bilbao, will select 12 finalist projects and 3 winners. The latter will form part of the artistic programme of Getxophoto 2025.

What is Art?

What is art? When you think of that word, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it painting? Being creative? Letting your imagination run free? Or maybe a means of escaping from the real world?

 

Every artist [and even non-artists] have their own interpretation of what art means to them. While some utilize the craft simply for fun and a means to relax and enjoy a hobby, others view it as a way to visually express what they may not be able to express verbally. Every artist also has their own medium they feel best expresses their message and emotions.

PROFUSION OF COLORS

 We invite artists for submitting artworks in various artistic styles. The exhibition explores how the "Profusion of Colors" enjoy the beauty of life, that awaken the senses and electrifies the mind, this can be interpreted and expressed in diverse and innovative artistic ways.

An artwork by each artist who made a submition will be displayed at the screen at the gallery during the exhibition. Names of all artists who submitted artworks (with links to a website or an Instagram account) will be listed at the exhibition web page.

9 artists will be selected for presenting an artwork at the physical group exhibiton and for representation at the online gallery.
