The COCA Project 2021 is a competition for emerging artists and designers that offer the opportunity to join the network of The House of Collectors, exhibit in Italy, create an artistic production and participate in artistic residencies. COCA Project 2021 is open to all adult artists of any nationality.

ARTISTIC PRODUCTION

We finance the realization of an artistic project of the value of up to € 5,000.00 to the winning artist. Each artist will be able to propose 3 works and the idea that would be financed by COCA, besides, the overall winner will exhibit in Italy in The House of Collectors.

3 ARTISTIC RESIDENCES | ITALY

CRAFT LAB GROTTAGLIE - ITALY | PINO PASCALI FOUNDATION

International and national artists will be selected to create 3 artistic residencies in Italy. The 2021 location is Grottaglie (Italy), a historic city of ceramics and contemporary art. The artists in residence will be able to use the workshops of the Craft lab of the Pino Pascali Foundation. All artistic skills can participate. Accommodation for 10 days, the use of the laboratory and the exhibition of the works produced will be financed.

ITALY EXHIBITION

THE HOUSE OF COLLECTORS | GROTTAGLIE - ITALY

The finalist artists selected by the advisors of the COCA Project and viewed by The House of Collectors (THC) will have the maximum visibility of their online profile on cocaproject.art. Eleven artists among the finalists will be selected for an exhibition in Italy in Grottaglie in the THC house to promote works selected by COCA to Italian collectors.

Woman Made Gallery is seeking submissions for our August-September 2021 group exhibition juried by Jessica Bingham (artist, curator at University Galleries of Illinois State University; director and co-founder of Project 1612). This exhibition will be held at Woman Made Gallery located at 2150 S. Canalport Ave., Chicago, IL 60608 in the Pilsen neighborhood. 

 

EXHIBITION DESCRIPTION
Under capitalism, we are asked to make every hour of every day productive -- through work, through consuming, through buying, through wanting more.  But after a year of isolation, confinement, of racial justice uprising, of trauma from police violence, of illness, what can a new reality look like if we continue to live slowly? If we continue to pause, process what we have collectively gone through, and move at the speed of humanity rather than the speed of production?

This exhibition considers recent practices of a Slow Living lifestyle, and invites work that offers opportunities to slow down, contemplate, process, rest, and come back into ourselves and our communities. 

Woman Made Gallery seeks artwork in all mediums. We are dreaming of painterly, time/place-based, meditative, healing work, matched with work that processes contemporary realities for women and non-binary folks as the world continues to increase its pace of living, among others. We encourage intersectional feminist approaches that include consideration of sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, and disability, among other social locations.

Woman Made Gallery is particularly, though not exclusively, interested in investigating the following conceptual questions for "Moments Like This":

  • Do you practice slow living? What does slow living look like for you?
  • In what way(s) have you deliberately chosen a slower pace or implemented simplicity in your daily routine? How has it changed your outlook on life? 
  • How have you reclaimed your time in the last year? What have you said "no" to recently?
  • In 2-3 sentences, share a story from your life when you missed out on something special because you were too busy to live in and not living in the moment. What did this teach you?
  • How do you process and cope with stress? 
  • What does your typical morning look like?

ABOUT THE JUROR

Jessica Bingham (she/her) is an artist, curator, educator, and mother working in Central Illinois.  She is curator at University Galleries of Illinois State University and the director and co- founder  of Project 1612. In addition to curating exhibitions, Bingham is a practicing artist whose work  examines memory, trauma, homemaking, childhood, and motherhood through mending. Her  work has been exhibited at: Neon Heater, Findlay, Ohio; Public Space One, Iowa City; Figge Art  Museum, Davenport, Iowa; and Heartbreaker, Peoria, Illinois, among others.

SUBMISSION FEE

The submission fee for Moments Like This is $30. Only one submission may be entered per artist. Each submission requires one artwork, though up to three artworks may be considered per submission. Paid submission does not guarantee an exhibition opportunity. No refunds offered.

Members at the Enhanced Artist Level and above receive one free entry annually. Please email general@womanmade.org to receive your one-time code for free entry redemption.

WMG offers fee waivers to those that request the need and upon approved application. WMG offers 25 fee waivers in total. To acknowledge the historic inequities of wealth distribution, 15 of the 25 are exclusively reserved for ALAANA/BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+. Factors that result in an approved application include financial instability or low income status, student or recent graduate status, identification as ALAANA/BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+, or a demonstrated need otherwise. WMG accepts Fee Waiver Request forms on a rolling basis until all fee waivers have been distributed. A note declaring all fee waivers have been distributed will be added to the Submission form at that time. (That is, if you are reading this, the form is active, and there are still fee waivers available!) The team at WMG will approve and send a Submittal fee waived link within 4 days of application receipt.  To request a fee waiver -- complete the Google form located in the submission link. 

ELIGIBILITY
Woman Made Gallery is a space for women and nonbinary artists, including trans women and femme/feminine-identifying genderqueer artists. We welcome art from women and non-binary artists from our local community, regionally based, and around the world. 

Due to limited staff and wall size restrictions, artworks must fall within 6’ horizontally and under 75 pounds in weight, unless delivered to and picked up from our 4th floor gallery by the artist. Artists may be additionally responsible for the installation of oversized works.

New media artworks are eligible. To be considered, artists must  submit a sample .mp4 or url under 10mins for purposes of consideration. For exhibition, WMG requires a digital transfer (Google Drive, Vimeo downloads, WeTransfer) as well as a USB formatted in .mp4 file format delivered to the gallery. WMG can provide a limited number of media players, Epson projectors and TV monitors with basic speakers. All other new media needs are the responsibility of the artist.

ART SALES
Accepted work may be listed for sale, though is not required. WMG will retain a 40% commission on sold works. Work remains the property of the artist until sold. Sold artworks shall remain in the exhibition until the end of the exhibition. Artists will be paid no later than 30 days after the close of the exhibit.

 

TERMS OF EXHIBITION

An artist contract with full terms of exhibition will be administered at the time of acceptance notification. Please note that the shipping/delivery to and from the gallery is the responsibility of the artist including all associated fees, insurance of work en route. If work is not picked up from exhibition by the date noted in the artist contract, the work will become the property of Woman Made Gallery and subject to donation to WMG's fundraising efforts, or otherwise discarded.

We are now accepting submissions for our PHYSICAL Art exhibition ‘H U M A N I S M’.

Artists from all countries are welcome to submit their works for consideration. You are welcome to submit works in any medium. (painting, photography, printmaking, video art, installation, films, sculpting, mixed media, poems, illustration etc). The theme of the exhibition is OPEN.

Any artist from any background can submit any of their work. There is no charge to submit your application, please feel free to share your work with us. A fee (£85 per artist and £55 per video artist) is applied per artist once they have been selected for the exhibition.

The team will review all applications and the selected work will be announced in July & August 2021.

Shades of Purple 2021

Open to all artists 18 years and older.  All painting mediums allowed including drawing mediums and digital painting. (For this competition, digital and drawing mediums are categorized as a "painting".)  Artwork may be ANY STYLE OR SUBJECT MATTER that contains PURPLE or shades of PURPLE preferable as a prominent or secondary color.
