Call for Artists - The Mind - Wake up screaming Edition #17

Share

Eligibility:

Wake up screaming is an online arts zine released with the New Moon. We are currently accepting submissions for our 17th edition, themed “The Mind” to be released via www.wakeupscreaming.com in January.

We are very intrigued to find out how artists work with and approach the Mind in their creative work. How humans deal with the mind from day-to-day. We are seeking people with interesting things to express about their own conscious experience.

We would like to hear from people who are exploring the mind with a particular focus on consciousness, psychology, mental health, meditation, dreams, myth, Jungian theory and the exploration of these through art.

We are looking for artists who are working directly to portray the mind in visual or written form, those who create depictions of inner worlds. We would like to connect with artists involved in or using meditation as part of their creative work. We would also like to hear from therapists and scientists, philosophers, writers, Buddhist monks and neuroscientists.

Note: This theme requires time and patience to unfurl so the creation of this edition will span two months, rather than our usual one.

You might like to explore the following questions within your submission:

What is the mind?
Why does the mind create?
What can we learn about the mind through creativity?
What is your relationship with your own mind?
What is a mandala?

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for interesting art and writing based on the theme “The Mind”. Please send some examples of your work, and / or share a short article 600 – 1200 words about your experiences and thoughts on the ideas outlined here, or even better, something that we haven’t even considered. We might ask you more questions about your work and practice to publish with your submissions.

As usual, our pages will be open to submissions from artists in all forms. Visual pieces, writing, illustration, painting, drawing, animation, music, sound, photography, video, multimedia, films, installations, movement, dance, noise, soundscapes, songs, collaborations, creative writing, poetry and short articles 600 – 1200 words.

Or any combination of the above – we particularly like amalgamation and cross-pollination between mediums.

New work, old work, published or not, Wake up screaming is an open space designed for artists to respond honestly to interesting themes. We hope this act will help us nourish each other’s creative development and deepen the understanding of ourselves.

Please read the full submission guidelines and some previous editions, to understand the sort of art and writing we like to publish.

We look forward to viewing your work.
