NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - BLACK AND WHITE 2020

It is time for NYC4PA to revisit one of our favorite themes, Black and White.  It is our homage to the beginnings of photography before the dramatic change that came about when color film was introduced.

Send us your monochrome images where all the emotion, texture and beauty are expressed in shades from white to dark. No matter if your original image was shot with tri x, a digital SLR, or your phone, if the end product is a terrific Black and White, it fits the call.  Sepia will be accepted.

As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - LUMINOSITY - THE IMPACT OF LIGHT

Light and its quality is the basic element of photography. There is an iconic photograph of Grand Central Station with streams of sunlight filling the airspace as it reflects off dust particles in the air. In photography the same subject, nothing more than a snapshot at one time of day, becomes an impactful image at another.  Sunsets are beautiful and midday sun is harsh. A strategically placed light can create amazing portraits; late afternoon is a world of shadow and light that warms everything it touches.

NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - STREET PHOTOGRAPHY 2020

Vivian Maier, an unknown, left behind a treasure of images she took while walking outside on time off. Cartier-Bresson, Frank, Meyerowitz, Arbus, Evans, the list of accomplished street photographers goes on. Their work captured a special essence of life, not posed, not set up but there in the streets, yards, avenues, porches... we pass every day. Images as compelling surround us as we walk or ride in the streets of our lives. The challenge for this contest is to shoot those street images that set them apart from snapshots.  Again - opportunities abound.

NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - FROM A SEED...2020

Growing up in NYC each of us had the opportunity to experience the wonderful world of botanicals at both the New York and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.  We had the opportunity to develop an early appreciation for the variety of life that starts with a seed, much of it in spectacular greenery and flowers bursting with color.

Though seeds can be tiny and come in an envelope at the nursery, large and found in the center of a fruit, or black and found in a watermelon; they all hold the promise to become glorious botanicals.

With spring approaching in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern, capture your unique view of favorite flowers, trees in bloom, variegated leaf patterns, vines etc. in gardens, at the beach, on your window sill, or in the rain forest.
