Calling all emerging artists!

On 19th January 2017 Artistank will take over the crypt in St Pancras Church, London, to celebrate all things new and evolving: years, ideas, places, challenges, identities.

In a world dominated by labels and definitive answers, we want to hear a different story: what sparked off your journey from one state to another.

Our call out is open to creatives from all backgrounds.

Be it through spoken words, soundscapes, installations, painting or performance, share with us the work that marked a plot twist, an inspirational moment, a transition in your life or practice.

Transitionsis an exhibition organised by Artistank, in conjunction with the launch of our social platform dedicated to young artists.

OffSite Outdoor Arts Development

OffSite is the new artist development programme run by Dda to follow on from the published evaluation of (2013).

The programme has been established to develop further opportunities for outdoor artists based in the region. Over its course, the programme looks to create opportunities that take regional talent to the national and international marketplace whilst representing Dda as a Midlands hub for Outdoor Arts Development.

The Offsite Programme will run for three years and Year 1 will focus on:

Training and development

  • Four training/workshop sessions, considering a range of components that will benefit the needs of artists and producers in the region
  • Working with key regional, national and international partners & funding bodies to deliver sessions

Open network

  • Hosting a regional network that keeps the sector connected to regional, national and international activities
  • Offering the opportunity to voice and discuss development needs for regional artists
  • Creating a network of creatives that can support each other's practice, share knowledge & continue to grow the regional outdoor arts scene
  • Networking opportunities to engage with practitioners, festivals and commissioning partners in the outdoor sector

Commissioning opportunities

  • Offering a series of small commissions to outdoor artists to continue to support the development of the sector regionally
  • Offering time, space and resources needed for enable artists to flourish creatively

Test bed events

  • Creating a succession of events that showcase a series of new outdoor productions at the 'work in progress' stage
  • Opening up new opportunities for audiences, commissioning partners & festival managers to engage with artists at the early stages of the work's development

Year 1 will focus on regional development with an ambition to widen the remit to include national and international work in Years 2 and 3.

OffSite Outdoor Arts Development - Test Bed

Outdoor Arts Test Bed

Test Beds are one of the new initiatives in the OffSite Artist Development programme, allowing Artists the opportunity to test work and gain valuable feedback from audience members and industry professionals prior to taking work out on tour.

We hope that the process will allow artists making work for the outdoors the chance to reflect throughout the development period and provide audience insight through feedback.

We are seeking 2 - 4 Midlands based Artists/Companies who are looking for an opportunity to test early stage ideas with a live audience. Further information can be found below:

  • The Artist/Company must present between 5 20mins of a piece that is in the early stages of development
  • The presentation will happen at Dda and will be open to the general public and an invited audience of varying ages, ethnicity and gender
  • The space available will be the Dda Theatre (performance area of 9m x 9m x 4.5m)
  • The scheduled date is currently Friday 27thJanuary 2017
  • Travel support is available pending further discussions

OffSite Outdoor Arts Development - Seed Funding

As part of the OffSite Artist Development programme,Dda invites Artists and Companies working in dance, circus or physical theatre to apply for support for the research, development and creation of new outdoor works for 2017. With this seed funding, we are looking to support Midlands based artists who are already working in the Outdoors or looking to create performance work for the Outdoors.

The seed funding available is made up of funds from the Esme Fairbairn Foundation & our affiliate companies - SO Festival, Appetite Stoke, Leicester Council & Derby Fest.We are looking to support between 3 5 projects with funding ranging from 500 - 2000 per project.

We are interested in supporting the following types of work:

  1. Small to midscale works that are in the early ideas stage and will be created ready for presentation in 2017
  2. The research and development of new ideas/shows that may not flourish into touring products until a later date
  3. The development time for artists to enhance or reflect on their artistic practice when making work for the outdoors
  4. Work that reflects the diverse landscape and communities of the Midlands

Alongside the commission funds, additional resources are available to the selected artists & companies including:

  1. Rehearsal space
  2. Marketing & Audience Development support
  3. Producer and Artistic support

Book illustration - images that tell a story

Illustration for anyone who has an interest in images that tell a story with a creative background. Enhance your (non-digital) drawing skills through illustration, explore varied techniques and develop your own style. Through demonstration and taking part in set tasks you will be able to illustrate a short piece of text from a story or poem. An understanding of basic traditional art and design techniques are essential with good English language skills. Please note that this is not a creative writing course.
