Modern Twist: Steam bent furniture by Joshua Till

Keywords:

Manchester Craft & Design Centres 2016MMU Graduate Awardwinner Joshua Till puts a contemporary twist on a traditional craft with his nature-inspired steam bent furniture.

Steam bending was once a vital practice, paramount to the production of weapons, tools and water vessels, but with the advance of technology it has become less common. Joshua is hoping to change all that by bringing this traditional process into the 21st Century.

As a low energy, environmentally responsible and economical method of manipulating wood, the technique has a lot of potential for experimentation and Joshua is taking full advantage of that fact to produce a new, exciting collection for his first ever solo exhibition.
