CUT Festival - New Commissions call out

Share

CUT Festival - The Art of Barbering is a 10 day multidisciplinary arts festival that brings together international artists, East London barbers and activists. The festival is curated by jamie lewis hadley and produced by Xavier de Sousa with support from Artsadmin and Live Art Development Agency.

Supported by Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund, Wellcome Trust and Jerwood Charitable Foundation, the festival will take place across multiple venues in East London, including Toynbee Studios, Archive Gallery and various barbershops. A number of international artists and barbers will be presenting work at the festival, including Oreet Ashery (UK), Cary Kwok (Hong Kong), Brandon Tauszik (USA), Hick Duarte (Brazil) and Mark Bustos (USA).

As part of the festival, and in partnership with Jerwood Charitable Foundation, we are offering 3 commissions of 1000 to UK-based artists of all ages, backgrounds and disciplines (with up to 10 years of professional experience) to submit work which responds to the themes of the festival as part of our Next in Line platform. Whilst we do encourage artists to propose works suitable for presentation within a barbershop, we are also open to works that might better be situated within a more traditional setting.

Successful artists will be invited to London to spend the day workshopping their ideas, visiting sites and meeting with mentors and of course get their hair cut!

Proposals will be reviewed by a selection of artists, barbers and representatives from institutional partners and invited guests.
