Category:

CUT Festival - The Art of Barbering is a 10 day multidisciplinary arts festival that brings together international artists, East London barbers and activists. The festival is curated by jamie lewis hadley and produced by Xavier de Sousa with support from Artsadmin and Live Art Development Agency.

Supported by Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund, Wellcome Trust and Jerwood Charitable Foundation, the festival will take place across multiple venues in East London, including Toynbee Studios, Archive Gallery and various barbershops. A number of international artists and barbers will be presenting work at the festival, including Oreet Ashery (UK), Cary Kwok (Hong Kong), Brandon Tauszik (USA), Hick Duarte (Brazil) and Mark Bustos (USA).

As part of the festival, and in partnership with Jerwood Charitable Foundation, we are offering 3 commissions of 1000 to UK-based artists of all ages, backgrounds and disciplines (with up to 10 years of professional experience) to submit work which responds to the themes of the festival as part of our Next in Line platform. Whilst we do encourage artists to propose works suitable for presentation within a barbershop, we are also open to works that might better be situated within a more traditional setting.

Successful artists will be invited to London to spend the day workshopping their ideas, visiting sites and meeting with mentors and of course get their hair cut!

Proposals will be reviewed by a selection of artists, barbers and representatives from institutional partners and invited guests.

FULL Call-out brief on our website: www.cutfestival.com

Successful applications will be informed by 6th January

CONTEMPORARY TEXTILES FAIR 2017

Saturday 18th 19th March

Preview Evening Friday 17th March

The Contemporary Textiles Fair is one of the most prestigious of its kind in the country, held in the magnificent Grade II* gothic surroundings of the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington, South-West London.

A well-established, high quality and highly regarded event, the Contemporary Textile Fair is almost unique in its focus on textile designer makers, unencumbered by suppliers and other craft disciplines. It is this clear focus, together with the unique setting and consistently high visitor numbers that make this event both enjoyable and successful, with many exhibitors choosing to return year after year.

CRITERIA

The criteria for applications is the same for all of the Landmarks art fairs: individual textile artists and designer makers whose work demonstrates creativity, innovation and quality, balancing the tactile and functional with the aesthetic. Please note that there is a selection process and we have already started allocating stands. There is no deadline as such, applications are being assessed as and when we receive them, and places secured accordingly. The sooner you apply the better!

PUBLICITY

Marketing for this event will include: the Landmarks quarterly events brochure which is distributed to local venues & mailed to Landmark members; full colour Contemporary Textiles Fair leaflets and posters; e-leaflet, paid advertising; PR, national and local listings; targeted mailing lists; AA sign posting and banners in the local vicinity. Advertising will include many national specialist magazines including Selvedge, Craft Magazine, Craft & Design and Embroidery Magazine as well as local general consumer magazines and local press.
