Awakenings & Beginnings International Dance Festival®




Rubans Rouges Dance® our parent company sponsors "Awakenings & Beginnings International Dance Festival®" that functions as a mainstream and indie dance festival, hosted traditionally in Los Angeles annually at Diavolo Space for the performance in Lincoln Heights near L.A.'s downtown area. We are asking for choreographers to submit their best work in any dance form but primarily contemporary, ballet, modern, dance theatre, performance art theatre, cultural pieces. We are willing to accept and/or consider other works. in other dance disciplines. We accept artists at all levels as long as they are professionals: Emerging; Mid Career; Seasoned & Established. A new portion of our festival also invites amateurs and inspiring artists for performance opportunities in an informal environment for our "Anyone Can Dance Program". We also have a summer edition of the same festival that we often tour in the world. One year we hosted it in Vegas, in 2018 we hsoetd it at the Joan Weill Center for Dance Arts, Ailey's Citigroup Theater in Manhattan, New York. We are open to pre-screen potential applicants for the summer edition as well. Other elements of our "Awakenings & Beginnings International Dance Festival®": Choreographers Dinner; Red Ribbons® VIP Red Carpet Event & Gala; Happenings & Events; informal & Formal Performances; fun on location photo shoot free to participants; and lots more. All performance dates are TBA at this time. If you are chosen for our festival you need to be flexible and keep an open date range between now and June 30, 2020.

Prizes Details: 

Every year, we present the "Awakening Award®". A presitgious 100% crystal award that is bestowed up an Artist who has contributed greatly to the arts field in the world or is part of the modern dance legacy for our "Foremothers & Fathers of Modern Dance®". Past recipients include: Lois Greenfield, Lori Bellilove and the Isadora Duncan Dance Company. A newer aspect of our festival and our "Awakenings Award®" is that now we offer a competition for performers to win an honorarium (the amount is currently $150.00 awarded to two artists/choreographers) and a "Best Performance - Awakening Award®". This portion of the festival is judged by parties non-affiliated with Rubans Rouges®. The judes change every year.

Barnstorm Dance Fest 2020




The 6th annual Barnstorm Dance Fest, presented by Dance Source Houston, will take place June 9-14, 2020 at MATCH – Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston. Applications for works 5-15 minutes in length are being accepted from all genres of dance. Selected applicants will perform their work twice during the festival and will receive a $250 stipend.


  • Individuals, collective and organizations working in any dance genre.
  • Applicants do not have to be Houston area residents. A select number of out of town artists are featured each year.
  • Applicants who have participated in Barnstorm for the past two consecutive years are not eligible for the 2020 festival.
  • Choreographers must be 18 and older.

Time Limit: Proposed works should be between 5 – 15 minutes in length. Excerpts of longer works may be submitted.
Genre: Dance Source Houston encourages submissions from all genres of dance.
Application Deadline: Application, work samples and application fees must be received by 11:59pm CST on Friday, December 20, 2019.
Fee: An application fee of $25 must be paid for each submitted piece. Dance Source Houston members in good standing receive a $10 discount on the application fee. 
Notification: Artists will be notified of acceptance in February 2020

About the Festival

The DanceBARN Festival is an annual event that brings professional dancers, choreographers, and dance educators together for one week of dancing, creating, relaxing, and performing in the heart of the lakes.

A Collective Experience

The DanceBARN Festival can't happen without you. Our directors curate a diverse week of classes, screenings, performances, recreational and community events, and select choreographers to produce work during the week-long festivities. Apply to be part of the 2019 Festival!

Battle Lake, Minnesota is a resorting community nestled in "the heart of the lakes" that thrives off of summer tourism. The town is supportive of the arts and always ready to learn from the dancers attending the festival. We would love you to share your passion for dance with our town!
