ScreenDance Intensive

In addition to viewing and discussing a plethora of international dance film shorts and getting an overview of the genre, the Intensive takes participants through a variety of editing exercises, the preliminaries of getting coverage, creating & shooting dynamic choreography for camera - what works and what doesn’t, incorporating elements including time, distance, lighting, jump cuts, and much more.  The Intensive examines narrative vs. conceptual, linear vs. non linear, current & past popular styles of screen dance, “commercial” vs “art”,  where to go/existing options with your films in terms of festivals, funding, distribution etc. and much more.

The Creative Gesture | Preparing the Ground | A research lab with Medhi Walerski and Pierre Pontvianne

Program Overview

Explore the beginning stages of the creative process in this two-week research lab for professional dancers. Part of The Creative Gesture suite, this program focuses on preparing the ground and diving into various ideas and perspectives.

Guided by international choreographer Medhi Walerski and dramaturge Pierre Pontvianne, 16-20 participants will create content for a dance production through improvisations, researching physical material, and collecting content to support and nurture the development of a choreographic work.

Exchange Choreography Festival

EXCHANGE Choreography Festival provides a meeting point for professional dancers to showcase their choreographic work and engage in dialogue about process. Informal showings in a black box setting, discussion roundtables, lectures, and networking events are also included in the festival weekend, which runs in conjunction with the Summer Heat International Dance Festival and its array of master classes, repertory workshops, and performances.  10-15 choreographers are selected by The Bell House to present original dance works for EXCHANGE up to 10 minutes in length.
