Studio Workspace Residency

The Studio Workspace Residency is an opportunity for artists to create new work and fully immerse themselves in WSW’s supportive environment. We invite applications from artists at any stage of their careers. This residency gives artists the gift of time, an uninterrupted period to live and work away from the stresses of daily life. Artists may choose to work in any one or more of our studios: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, darkroom photography, or ceramics.

Artists receive a thorough studio orientation and are expected to work independently, although studio staff is available to provide assistance. Deep technical assistance can be arranged for an additional fee. Artists must provide their own materials, some of which can be purchased from WSW.

2nd Annual mind body spirit art show

J. Mane Gallery invites submissions for its mind body spirit online juried art exhibition.

Oscar Wilde said, "Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter."

Throughout history, the human figure has always been a common subject of visual art, involving the study and appreciation of it's beauty in it's depiction and presentation.  An awareness of the body shape, including postures like sitting, standing or sleeping and movements such as walking, running or dancing, speak to the ideal subject.

stARTup Small Works Art Fair: Call for Artists

Small Works San Francisco is a "tabletop" style art fair in an industrial warehouse setting where select artists can show small-scale works in all mediums. The fair runs July 19-21, 2019 at the Midway. Small Works offers an excellent opportunity for artists to experience stARTup Fair in a smaller, more approachable framework that taps into a unique collector market.

The application deadline is May 12th. Artists can apply online with a resume, bio, proposal and 10 images. Up to 60 artists will be selected to exhibit in the new space. Located in San Francisco’s trendy Dogpatch neighborhood, the warehouse is within walking distance of Minnesota Street Project, McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, and the Museum of Craft and Design.

The Freedom of Abstraction

The Freedom of Abstraction
May 3, 2019 – June 1, 2019

The rise of abstraction meant freedom from the strictures and constraints of naturalism and representation. For some, it means stripping away the visual irrelevancies of nature in order to explore different subjects, an exploration of the artist’s own imagination, or finding the essential qualities a form observed in the real world. The freedom of abstraction rests on a paradox: the liberation of non-objective art often meant the new focus on order, form, and purity.
