6 VIRTUAL EXHIBTIONS

CULTVR Lab is pleased to announce the first two open calls for Catalyst 360º, an ambitious residency and virtual exhibitions programme designed to support artists to engage, develop and test immersive experiences that lie between the physical and digital realm.

6 virtual exhibitions within the digital twin of CULTVR Lab will be facilitated through this strand, supporting artists from any creative background or discipline and at any stage in their career.

The concept is simple:

What show do you want to realise if money is no object?
How have you always wanted to present your work if there are no physical considerations?

This strand will allow individual artists or collaborative teams to design and realise (Virtually) their perfect exhibition to be presented digitally at CULTVR Lab gallery. Artists will put forward their ideas and provide the relevant content for the showcase.

Once the artists have been appointed they will work closely with the creative team at 4Pi Productions to plan and curate the exhibitions whilst the interactive design team produces the virtual shows. This project aims to be conducted remotely from beginning to end, as such, all meetings with the artists will be online.

Each digital showcase will launch on the CULTVR portal and across various social media channels from March 2022 onwards.

In May/June 2022 we will undertake a public vote to select the exhibition that audiences most want us to try to physically realise at the venue for later in 2022/23.

The virtual exhibitions will provide the 6 artists involved with an artistic fee of £750 and with a unique tool to disseminate their creative practice internationally, providing a long legacy to their work across platforms.

This call will be supporting two artists based in Wales, two artists based nationally and two international artists at different points of their creative journey.

3 IMMERSIVE ARTS RESIDENCIES

CULTVR Lab is pleased to announce the first two open calls for Catalyst 360º, an ambitious residency and virtual exhibitions programme designed to support artists to engage, develop and test immersive experiences that lie between the physical and digital realm.

3 residency opportunities will be facilitated through this strand to support the research, development and presentation of new immersive productions and live experiences.

The call invites creative practitioners to submit projects that leverage the unique capabilities of CULTVR Lab and its forward facing performance space, which features a 180º immersive dome with a 15.1 surround sound system.

The intensive Immersive Residency Programme will support the awarded creatives for one month (this can be working remotely) with access to CULTVR’s dome venue over a period of 5 to 7 days (as a consecutive block or individual days spread over a month).

Each awarded residency will obtain financial support to utilise in the development of their own projects. Additional support will also be provided through key resources and in-house experience to develop and bring to life each proposal, with the aim to share each production for public presentation.

Applications are welcomed from either individual artists or collaborative teams from various disciplines such as visual arts, interactive design, sound arts, dance, theatre, animation, game design, robotics and artificial intelligence.

Submitted applications must be original and must not have been presented elsewhere beforehand in a completed form; however, projects that have already had some development work are eligible to apply alongside new proposals. (For example, you might be a musician or a band with a recent album that you want to turn into a live AV performance or a dance company looking to adapt some initial choreography into an immersive showcase).
