Open call for a virtual residency: Arts Unchained; For democracy in the arts.

wendy.network is announcing another virtual residency for creative individuals of any backgrounds and/or mediums! Our main purpose at wendy.network is to find new ways for artists to thrive without having to struggle for survival, by fostering a radically empathetic community of artists and art lovers. This residency is dedicated to the ‘democratization of the arts’, where together with other participants, mentors and wendy.network team members, the residents will strive to create, imagine and work towards projects that can bring the society closer to the democratization of the arts.

  • Monetary reimbursement: 200 Eur + 200 Eur worth of KONJ coins.
  • Deadline for submission: September 16th, 00:00 CET
  • The residency will happen during the month of October 2021, fully online with a weekly commitment of 7-8 hours of contact time.

The residency will include weekly lectures from 4 guest speakers (Michael Mastrototaro, Kalliope Burnia, David Hinojosa Admann, Alexandra Papademetriou), private sessions with a guest mentor and workshops, where you will tackle various problems related to the topic and your project. There  will also be time to bond and connect to the other participants during the weekly side-activities. The main focus will be on developing a personal project that is related to the topic of the democratization of the arts and building a tangible report/article together with the other participants.

At the end of the residency the wendy.network will host a live event where the six resident individuals can present their completed residency projects. Additionally the residency will culminate in the publication of a residency manifesto/leaflet, that will include essays, notes and material from all individuals participating in the residency (residents, guest speakers, guest mentor, faculty etc.).

The residency will happen online using two platforms: Zoom and Gather.town. Participants are welcome to apply from all around the world. Please keep in mind that the contact time will mostly happen in the evenings in Central European Time.

Requirements:

  • You are a creative individual of any background (artist, curator, academic, etc.);
  • Each week you are able to present your weekly progress;
