Compás 88 – Spring Residency, 2022 – Mexico City

About the gallery:

Compás 88 is a multidisciplinary art gallery founded to stimulate the development of artists, curators, collectives and beyond. Our curatorial practice is inspired by play, critique, research, and in general – concepts outside of the art world. We are rooted in pushing boundaries and experimentation, and we seek to generate new and ongoing dialogues between our collaborators, other artists and non-artists alike.

As a new and important space in Mexico City’s art scene, we want to encourage other galleries to focus more on affect and social processes, and less on capital.

The 2-month residency program:

It is our collective opinion that many “residencies” in Mexico City do very little in contributing towards a greater art dialogue. Compás 88 is not an art hostel. We are a fully operating gallery and want this residency to be a mutually beneficial experience.

Our residency program is currently open to only 1 artist per term. We want this residency to serve as a powerful bridge between the artist and our greater community. To actually mean something.

For 2 months, the resident will have the ability to produce work, to network with our roster of friends in the art scene, to visit and collaborate with important institutions, to curate events and other programming at the gallery, to be our friend and colleague.

The resident will participate and assist in our ongoing series of exhibitions/events and, parallel to producing work, the resident will be encouraged to develop a socially-oriented project.

Towards the conclusion of the residency, the resident will be given full control over the gallery to curate and host a solo exhibition of their work.

Tentative dates of the residency:   March 10 to May 10  (subject to modification)
