Liverpool Arab Arts Festival 2021: Call for Proposals

Liverpool Arab Arts Festival (LAAF) is inviting proposals for our 2021 festival. The festival will be held Friday 16 – Sunday 25 July, 2021.

2021 Artist Residency Program @ The Watermill Center

The Watermill Center’s Artist Residency Program began in 2006, when The Center officially opened as a year-round facility. Each year collectives and individuals take up residence at The Center to live and develop works that critically investigate, challenge and extend the existing norms of artistic practice.

The Artist Residency Program is process-based, without the expectation or promise of a final exhibition of the work. Watermill provides artists with time and space to focus on developing their practice in a communal environment that encourages experimentation. Artists-in-Residence share their creative process with the community through open rehearsals, workshops and artist talks.

Our fragile sense of self needs support, and this we get by having and possessing things because, to a large degree, we are what we have and possess.

(Tuan, Yi-Fu , 1980, "The Significance of the Artifact," Geo-graphical Review, 70 (4), 462-472.)

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art…

(Le Guin, Ursula K., Speech at the National Book Awards, 2014)

2020 International Summer Program

Since 1992, The Watermill Center has hosted the International Summer Program, uniting over 80 artists from more than 25 countries for a five-week creative intensive. The Summer Program provides a unique opportunity to work with established professionals in the international arts world; to forge an international community of artists from a broad range of experience levels and disciplines; and to investigate what it means to be a “global artist.”

One Artist A Week

ONE ARTIST A WEEK questions the dynamic of quickly changing trends, topics and "fashions" in the international art world and asks how each of the participating artists individually responds to this development.
The one-week residency + exhibition program addresses artists who want to develop and present their work in Athens following an intensive creative and learning process.

ONE ARTIST A WEEK not only offers accommodation and exhibition space in the center of Athens, it also supports the artists with press, media and communication work, and helps to set up the exhibition/presentation at the end of the week.
