Improbable Talks

During 2020 we actively engaged in exchanges with fellow creatives in order to connect and share our ideas and experiences. For 2021 we are ready to create and develop strategies for open collaboration where connecting, linking, exchanging and manifesting will be the core of a participative project.

As seen in the survey's results, the main motivators for our participants were a personal sense of satisfaction, as well as the possibility of exchange; we want to develop this further and thought of starting with the most basic, kind of still stereotyped yet meaningful exchanging method, which is that of talking. We want to invite you to participate in what we've named "Improbable Talks" because they are somehow random, with unknown yet likely enough, really interesting matches from a variety of origins, occupations and views on life.

The dynamics of the talks are as simple as they may: there will be a main topic that can be freely developed by both participants. Co-Founders Abdulnur Akyüz and Mónica Quijano will just be moderators and in charge of the good functioning of the talk, as well as translations.

The topic will deal with our core focuses on IDENTITY (AS BUILT WITH OTHERS), CREATION AND RESISTANCE. And it can be developed from the perspectives each participant thought was the leading one to answer to "Migrations" survey; anyhow there are no limitations, we want these to be open and reflective.

Check our I.D portfolio*, so you can take an in-depth look to this upcoming project that will be focused on the narratives, content development and circulation of stage 3 from April 2021 on.

Charity Exhibition - Emotions Embodied: Abstractions from the West Coast

Eligibility:

Jackson Pollock. Willem de Kooning. Norman Lewis. Mark Rothko. Helen Frankenthaler. All of these artists are inextricably linked to the American abstract movement of the 1950s, but what exactly does it mean for a work of art to be abstract? Even as we enter into 2021, nearly 70 years later, the definitional description of abstract art continues to mystify everyday art enthusiasts.

Art Scene West, a new contemporary gallery of West Coast art, is seeking works of art from West Coast artists for its online charity exhibition, Emotions Embodied: Abstractions from the West Coast. Recognizing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the creative arts, Art Scene West will donate a portion of all proceeds to The Center for Cultural Innovation (CCI), a California-based nonprofit organization that provides business training and grants to aspiring artists, arts administrators, artisans, and other creative entrepreneurs.

Submissions for this exhibition should be original works of abstract art that reflect at least some of the following characteristics: non-representational subject matter, visible brushwork, and large canvases. Vibrant colors and demonstrated palette knife techniques are preferred elements but not expected.

Celebrating the abstract art movement and its evolution since the mid-nineteenth-century, this online exhibition will be promoted widely through Artsy, social media, and the Art Scene West website. No works will need to be shipped to the gallery but all works must be available for sale throughout the length of the exhibition.

The exhibition will run for ten weeks this winter and will include virtual events throughout the exhibition period.
