Call to Artists: Collage Publishing Workshop

Consider this: The book, not the gallery, is the best place to experience collage. This sentiment has broad implications for how collage artists work and how their work is received by an art world whose orientation is decidedly fixed on the gallery wall. Can the book provide for the functions that the exhibition has provided to artists for so long? Will the public accept a book as an experience of artwork or even as an object of art in and of itself? Unlike an exhibition where only original work is on display, a book depends on reproduction for its distribution. And if we now accept the book as on par with the exhibition, how does that affect how we think of the history of art publishing that has come before? These are the questions we seek to answer.

Der Greif - Issue 16 by Shirin Neshat

We are excited to announce Shirin Neshat as the guest editor for Issue #16. Shirin Neshat invites you to submit work that responds to a line from the poem “Common Love” by Persian poet Ahmad Shamlou.

Shirin Neshat writes:

“I often use poetry as a starting point for inspiration and Ahmad Shamlou’s poem, "Common Love,” deeply resonates with me and speaks about our shared humanity.

We all grapple with grief and trauma, both on an individual and collective level, but with this common ground, we feel less alone. This is human nature: we see and feel that others experience similar struggles therefore we feel bonded and hopeful.

Open Call to The Mobile Library Magazine

The Mobile Library provides a multi-digital exhibiting experience for artists and writers to showcase their work during the pandemic closures. Each publication is unique, pairing 6 artists and 6 writers together at different stages in their career to build a collaborative experience.

This year, Volume 3 will explore the theme of memory with Issue 1 seeking work that explores memories, moments, and experiences of childhood. What does it mean to record a moment and how do we choose which objects to represent a specific moment of our lives. The decision is a deeply personal one and through this issue we invite you to create works including, but not limited to --paintings, drawings, sculpture, illustrations, found objects, poetry, short stories, essays, journals and more!
