Artspace111 is thrilled to announce a call for Texas muralists to design and execute a mural on the exterior of Artspace111’s iconic 109 year old building. The North facing wall is passed by 24,000 drivers on Weatherford Street every day leaving Downtown Fort Worth. Eligible artists will be Texas based. Artists must be willing to meet contractual obligations and adhere to the budget and timeline. One artist or artist team will be selected.

Artspace111's Vision: We welcome your vision! We encourage innovative ideas and diverse use of media/materials that create an accessible work for all and contributes pride to our community!

Identified Mural Area Description:

Artspace111 is looking for a Texas-based artist to execute a large mural on the North side of the building. The wall measures approximately 72 x 22ft  and is red brick. Artists are not strictly limited to the North side of the building and are not required to cover the whole wall. For example, the Artspace111 team is open to a mural that wraps around to the front (West facing side) of the building, or a mural that leaves exposed brick.

ABOUT ARTPACE

Since opening in 1995, Artpace has served as an international laboratory for the creation and advancement of contemporary art. Our residencies, exhibitions, and public programs nurture the creative expression of emerging and established artists, while actively engaging youth and adult audiences. Artpace is housed in an 18,000-square-foot facility renovated by the eminent San Antonio firm Lake/Flato Architects. The 1920s building, once a Hudson automobile dealership, is located in the vibrant downtown cultural district, one block from the city’s famous River Walk.

ABOUT ARTPACE’S INTERNATIONAL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

Artpace annually hosts three residencies (spring, summer, and fall). Each residency includes one Texas artist, one national artist, and one international artist, all selected by a guest curator. The eight-week residency culminates in a two-month exhibition onsite. The mission of this program is to provide artists from varied disciplines with unparalleled resources and support that allows them to experiment with new ideas and take provocative risks. More than 240 artists at various stages in their careers have been selected to participate in the program.

An Artpace residency includes travel expenses, a living stipend, a materials budget, an apartment, and studio/exhibition space. Resident artists have access to fully-equipped wood and metal workshops and a digital media studio, in addition to technical and administrative support. The residency is followed by a two-month exhibition of the project created, which is documented for Artpace’s archive.
