Kinship Medicines | Indigenous Arts Program

Overview

Kinship Medicines is a thematic residency for queer, trans, and two-spirited Indigenous writers and visual artists who are enacting kinship ethics in their practices, particularly around discussions of gender, sex, and the queer-trans Indigenous futures movement.

This residency focuses on the discursive spark shared between queer, trans, and two spirited Indigenous visual artists and writers by focusing on conversation, collaboration, and building creative kinship between a cohort of writers who think alongside artists, whether it be through curatorial writing or literary form,  and a cohort of studio artists.

Plastic | Visual Arts Thematic

Overview

Plastic is everywhere, and is increasingly an object of environmental concern. However, it also provides the basis of our contemporary infrastructures including buildings, clothing, and communications networks. Despite the necessary campaigns for the elimination of single-use plastics, it is a material that cannot be easily dismissed. Plastic is one of the most intimate manifestations of our connections with oil, as it is used in everything from baby bottles to sex toys. It is also one of the foremost materials used in the production of contemporary art, from moulds to vinyl to paints.

Boulder Dairy Arts Center 2021 Call for Artists

The Dairy’s Visual Art Jury is an eleven-member committee comprised of artists, curators, university faculty and art collectors. Following the close of this year’s call, applications will be reviewed by the Dairy’s Curator of Visual Arts and this jury to select individual artists and groups of artists to exhibit in the Dairy's four galleries during the period defined above.

Most exhibitions are 6 weeks in length and are rotated in all 4 galleries at the same time. Exhibitions in all four galleries are usually planned around the same idea, concept, medium or artist. This provides greater context for all the work and the viewer is able to experience a narrative throughout the entire space. You may be accepted for a solo exhibition or become a part of a group exhibition.
