Ambrin

‘Corner Shop’ is a new online exhibition that Ambrin has produced during lockdown. In 2016 Ambrin began creating a series of jewellery sculptures inspired by items that one might find in their local corner shop. Each ordinary item was reimagined and transformed into luxurious, lavish and alluring jewels. In this exhibition we re-explore these existing works as stimulus for thought in the context of 2020. Our world has been thrown into a state of dystopia. Panic buying has knocked the hierarchies of material value into chaos as we see loo roll become a sought after product. Going out to drink a pint could now mean the difference between life or death for somebody vunerable. Protective medical items, once abudant and disposable, run on low supply and in some countries are no longer available in sufficient quantities. As physical museums and galleries are currently closed Ambrin wanted to create an artistic experience for people to enjoy at home. She hopes that people can visit the exhibition and enjoy some leisure time engaging with creative works and escape for a while into a world of imagination. The exhibition is completely free to access and features interactive exhibition labels and even a conversation area where you can submit your thoughts on the work.
