- About -

I had several jobs before returning to college as a mature student Trainee Architectural technician, Costume maker at Newcastle playhouse Trainee graphic designer, Studio manager of a printing firm I Completed an Art Foundation Course at Newcastle – specialised in constructed textiles. Degree course at Crewe & Alsager College – mixed media course, using wood, metal, ceramics & textiles, we could make anything as long as we mixed two or more materials. I specialised in textiles & wood, made 'Explorable furniture' in my final year, dropped textiles replaced it with metal. After leaving college I designed and manufactured a range of clocks, boxes, cabinets and mirrors, which I sold through galleries both in this country and abroad. I returned to Newcastle in 1994 and I am currently based at 36 Lime Street, artist studios in the Ouseburn valley. My first large scale commission was in 2000 when I designed the gates for Stepney Bank Stables. Since then I have been involved in many public art projects in the region including seating, gates, signage & sculpture. I design & project manage these, subcontracting out manufacture. I have over 20 years experience of running a wide range of workshops and residencies with children from pre school age up to adults, those with disabilities, children excluded from school, NEATS, young offenders & prison inmates. I enjoy working with people, helping them, passing on information & skills & watching their confidence grow as they achieve things they did not think that they could. About 3 - 4 years ago I had to scale down the woodwork because of problems with Arthritis, I started making decorative plaster cast plaques using plants & flowers to create relief images. The digital botanical prints I am making now follow on from the plaster casting, using silhouettes of flowers together with watercolour effects to create unique designs. I have started to incorporate elements of architecture, landscape & mixed media into my images & am very excited about developing these further.
