- About -

About Kerry O'Sullivan I am a visual artist currently Based in Limerick City . I am one of the First Graduates of The Ba (Honours) in Photography and Lens based Media in Limerick School of Art and design. My work currently involves starting conversations and draw participants into a performative space. My photographic approach varies depending on the project at hand and what is needed to carry out that project. My work to date has dealt with privacy and questioning the openness of my attitude to people online. I used a video of Myself looking vulnerable that I installed in a confined space referencing online and physical boundaries. This was exhibited as part of my third year exhibition entitled 'Primitus. The current project I am working on is a conversation based project, again for an installation, and it is also designed to be a book and set of postcards. My motivation for this project lies in the power of a question. As an artist I am always searching for what is missing. Part of the process of trying to find an answer to a question often involves an uncertainty about the question itself. Sometimes we deny this in the search for a simple answer. For this work I am referencing a type of social engagement I feel is missing in contemporary society. Personally I prefer a face to face conversation without the barrier of a screen and I will always look forward to receiving a postcard. Its about the power of asking a question and searching for an answer. I am interested in exploring it in the context of a socially engaged artwork.
