- About -

Carina Pesch, born 1983, studied Social Anthropology, Political Sciences, and Philosophy at the University of Leipzig and at the Orient Institute Beirut. In high school she started to write short stories and articles for the local newspaper. Than she found her way to radio, acoustic narratives, and sound art. She was trained as voice artist by Alexis Krüger and taught how to make radio features by Michael Lissek and Walter Filz. Making ”Hörspiele“ (radio drama) she learnt from Krok & Petschinka, Tim Staffel, and Paul Plamper and sound art from Antje Vowinckel and Peter Cusack. Today she mainly works as author, director, and producer of sound stories for public broadcasters and cultural institutions. She co-curates the monthly gathered listening event GERÄUSCHKULISSE *Hörspiel *Feature *Klangkunst and has recently started to work on sound art and site-specific sound installations. In her artistic work she chooses a subjective approach towards individuals and faces them without judgement. She stages the encounters and creates contact points in dialogue. Instead of merely showing her findings from the process of creation she wants the audience to experience them. For the representation she relies on techniques of collage, rough cuts, rhythm, and a structure that reflects the core message. Her special interests are personal and social boundaries as well as transcending and blurring them, the confrontation and meeting of different worlds and horizons of experience. With enthusiasm she experiments with New Media and new narrative forms. In 2015 she was awarded with a special mention at the Dok Leipzig hackathon for the Virtual Reality Project WUNDERKAMMER OF MEMORY. In 2016 she received a scholarship by Medieninnovationszentrum Babelsberg and was awarded as Kultur- und Kreativpilot by the government of Germany for the geo-based and interactive audio app H-EAR. In 2017 her radio piece WANNA PLAY? 2 WELTEN & 5 BLIND DATES was shortlisted for Prix Phonurgia Nova, the shorter remake of the piece was shortlisted for Das Kurze Brennende Mikro at the Berliner Hörspielfestival 2018. She also received a grant by the European Cultural Foundation and the Compagnia di San Paolo and attended the residency Audiotalaia Summer Camp in 2018. During this residency her first site-specific sound installations were created. In 2019 she was invited to HearSay International Audio Arts Festival with the sound installation DREAMWAYS and her radio collage DER WOLF IN UNS was shortlisted for Das Kurze Brennende Mikro at the Berliner Hörspielfestival 2019.
