Handbali Magazine Open Call

Handbali Magazine invites artists and collectives to submit a documentary project that highlights natural or urban spaces, as well as the interaction between nature and human beings, to make up the sixth publication of this emerging photography magazine.

Open to participants of any age and nationality, with projects completed or in the process of development, as close as possible to publication. Participants must undertake, in the event that they have not submitted a completed project, that it will be ready for presentation by the date of publication of the magazine.

Only one project per participant or group may be submitted free of charge.

Isla De Crear call-out

Isla de Crear is a creative centre, combining a range of different disciplines in order to
explore creating and crafting in a new method, away from commercial constraints or
industry guidelines, based on the principles of the Fantasism manifesto.
For our new call-out, we are looking for artists, craftspeople, thinkers and creatives
from all different fields to explore the theme:
QUEERIOUS : DISRUPTION
We are purposefully keeping the theme as broad as possible, and encourage you to
think as tangentially as possible.

O P E N | C A L L

We consider applications to work on anything, but are particularly interested in hearing from artists who are working on themes relating to:

  • Rural settings, small villages, Spain or Catalonia.

  • Ancient roman settlements – the residency is in walking distance of a dig site.

  • Agriculture, food sources and the ecological impact of farming.

Can Serrat, of approximately 1187 square meters, is an old classic Catalan farmhouse. In 1989, eleven Norwegian artists bought the house and began renovations. Can Serrat is located in the beautiful surroundings of El Bruc, a small village that overlooks the mountain of Montserrat, and is only 45 kilometers from Barcelona. The house offers different spaces and workshops to work in an impressive natural environment. A pleasant walk takes you from the house to the foot of the mountain, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the nails of Montserrat.
