Inspection of Artworks - Fine Art Prints and Sculpture

 

Gemini G.E.L. - a Los Angeles based fine art print publisher of limited edition prints and sculptures - is seeking a full-time employee for inspection of prints and sculptures for consistency and acceptable quality. Other responsibilities include documentation of artwork, research and sourcing paper for artist projects, and organization and storage of a vast active archive of artwork. The role requires strong attention to detail and good organizational skills. A background in Fine Art/Printmaking is required.

 

Role Description:

 

  • Inspect print (lithographs, etchings, screenprints) and sculpture editions for production errors, paper or material flaws; minor conservation for paper and fine art prints, preparing and cutting down prints, coordinating artist signings
  • Help manage print and sculpture archive and inventory, as well as tracking/reporting the status of projects during the production process
  • Manage fine art paper inventory; collaborate with artists and printers to identify desired paper for each project; source custom papers by working with paper merchants and mills; determine long-term storage and conservation needs
  • Draft documentation material through consultation with printers and senior management
  • Correspond and coordinate with fabricators, framers, art handling and shipping companies
  • Assist the shipping manager with oversight of projects
  • Assist with safe onsite and offsite art storage

 

Skills and Other Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in a professional fine art/studio environment or similar
  • Ability to work solo as well as with a team on multiple, simultaneous projects with given deadlines – flexibility and clear communication is a key requirement
  • Strong focus and attention to detail and accuracy and an understanding of quality control processes
  • Fine art paper knowledge, with experience in thoughtful and safe handling of artworks of various sizes, weights and properties
  • Light conservation skills for paper and fine art prints
  • Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, Microsoft Office
  • Printmaking knowledge and experience

 

 

Desired Skills:

 

  • Familiarity with Filemaker; ArtSystems or ArtBase

 

 

Salary: $60,000 to $70,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits, including fully-paid health insurance, vacation and sick days.
