The Development Intern will provide administrative support to the Development team by assisting in all aspects of FringeArts fundraising efforts. Working collaboratively across departments to develop resources for the entire organization, they will gain a clear-eyed understanding of how an arts organization functions and fits within its community as they identify its needs and develop creative and strategic plans to address them.

Working collaboratively, they create engagement opportunities for audiences and supporters of FringeArts, research opportunities to raise contributed income from foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual donors, as well as help organize and plan special donor events. Applicants interested in a career in the nonprofit sector will benefit greatly from understanding the mechanisms of a development department as a backbone of any arts organization. The skills learned through this internship are also transferable to many other departments in the nonprofits.

The Internship will take place during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, at the FringeArts Administrative Office, 140 N Columbus Blvd, or remotely as stipulated by current local health guidelines. Although we can be flexible, we prefer work hours to be between 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

The FringeArts development intern will gain critical insights in different genres of persuasive writing, including grant narratives, donor appeals, and partnership outreach. The intern will aid in drafting, editing, and advising on documents, emails, and applications key in FringeArts’ fundraising mission. 

The development intern will learn the key avenues of funding for a nonprofit organization, including government support, foundation grants, individual donations, and corporate sponsorships. Interns will be instrumental in stewardship of existing relationships with funding partners as well as researching opportunities for new partnerships. Interns will learn several methods of development research and be responsible for sharing their findings and archiving those findings in a database.

Interns will leave their FringeArts internship with a robust understanding of the fundraising landscape in performing arts nonprofit and will develop the skills necessary to grow such an organization.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be personable, enthusiastic, and flexible; able to work independently and collaboratively; skilled researcher with the ability to understand the organization’s needs, mission, and artistic programs and match them with funding opportunities;   is a people person; computer savvy with database experience; excellent writing skills; a quick learner who easily adapts to changing priorities and can manage multiple tasks at a time. Preferred candidates will have a background in Communications, English, Theatre, Nonprofit Management and/or Arts Administration and have a demonstrable interest in the performing arts.
