Gander & White Los Angeles is a full-service fine arts logistics facility serving the local, domestic and international private client, museum, gallery, auction house and interior design communities. We are an 86-year old company with branches in three countries, including 5 in the USA. As founding members of ICEFAT, we are committed to upholding the highest standards in fine art handling, shipping and logistics. We seek an experienced, positive-thinking and organized individual to join our staff as the Operations Manager.

Primary Job Description:
The Operations Manager will oversee the operations arms of our thriving fine-arts logistics operation. These include the local trucking, crating and warehouse departments. Each department has its own supervisor who reports directly to the Operations Manager. The Operations Manager will work closely with the Branch Director on maintaining quality controls within these departments. The Operations Manager will also work closely with the Branch Director on monthly supply/equipment/materials purchasing and other cost-control measures. This position reports to the Branch Director and works closely with all staff members in both the office and operations departments.

Essential Duties:
1. Local/interstate trucking
● Oversee local dispatcher and daily/weekly local truck scheduling
● Manage fleet leases; contracts; maintenance
● Manage fuel purchasing; WEX Fleet system
● Assist with staff hiring, training and discipline
● Oversee staff quality control, best practices and properly handling and technique
● Work with dispatcher on material purchasing and cost control
● Oversee and help implement new COVID-19 safety protocol for local crew and clientele
● Perform site surveys for local moving or art handling projects (for both estimating and planning purposes)
● Complete administrative tasks related to local trucking and submit reports in a timely fashion.

2. Crating/Packing
● Oversee the crating supervisor and crating technicians
● Work with crating supervisor on scheduling and timely completion of crating/packing projects
● Work with crating supervisor on hiring and training staff
● Oversee staff discipline
● Ensure best practices, standards and techniques for fine art crating and packing
● Work with crating supervisor on material purchasing and cost control
● Oversee and help implement new COVID-19 safety protocol for crating technicians and shop area
● Perform site surveys for local crating or packing projects (for both estimating and planning purposes)
● Complete administrative tasks related to crating and submit reports in a timely fashion.

3. Warehouse/Facility
● Oversee warehouse supervisor and daily/weekly warehouse scheduling
● Manage security systems; contracts; maintenance
● Manage HVAC systems; contracts; maintenance
● Manage building/facility maintenance, upkeep and repair
● Assist with staff hiring, training and discipline
● Oversee staff quality control, best practices and properly handling and technique
● Work with warehouse supervisor on material purchasing and cost control
● Oversee and help implement new COVID-19 safety protocol for warehouse staff and clientele
● Work closely with storage registrar on storage accounts and projects
● Complete administrative tasks related to local trucking and submit reports in a timely fashion.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

● Experience working in operations management at a fine art logistics company, art gallery, museum, or similar environment preferable.
● Thorough knowledge of fine art handling, packing, crating, storage and rigging techniques
● Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, G&W proprietary Eos System and working knowledge of database programs.
● Strong organizational and problem solving skills.
● Thorough attention to detail.
● Strong writing and communication skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently, interacting in a professional manner with co-workers, vendors and clients.
● Available to work occasional evenings and weekends.
