Our transitional family housing center seeks dedicated and creative part-time Guitar Teacher for our programs serving children from Kindergarten through 5th grade. The Guitar Teacher works in a classroom of 15-20 students to plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. This is an on-site position.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Implement curricula and activities to meet music-specific academic standards  
  • Teach age/skill appropriate music-based content for Guitar
  • Develop music literacy lesson components related to teaching rhythm and pitch notation, solfege reading and singing, improvisation and composition
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards musical standards
  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices
  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development, and program-wide functions   
  • Develops strong classroom management skills congruent
  • Be accountable for students’ mastery of musical standards  
  • Prepare participants for both individual and group (virtual) recital

  

 QUALIFICATIONS   

  • Bachelor’s degree in music education is required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Valid State Certification is helpful but not required  
  • Guitar proficiency, knowledge of recorder, basic guitar. Additional instrument proficiency is helpful
  • Experience working within diverse, non-traditional settings and with vulnerable populations
  • Must be willing to consent to a multi-phase criminal background check
