Adventure Filmmakers Masterclass

Overview

Join award winning, industry leading faculty and guest speakers for this hands-on, technical skill- and- theory-based masterclass. The program builds upon the foundational knowledge delivered in our Adventure Filmmakers Workshop (AFW) to provide AFW alumni as well as experienced adventure filmmakers with an advanced course. 

Participants will attend this masterclass with a project in mind, including a story idea, raw footage, or a project in post-production. We’ll dive deeply into edit, sound, camera techniques, and more. Participants will gain the tools required to navigate the complexities of producing quality films – from an idea to a final screening master.

Independent Residencies in the Leighton Artists Studios

Overview

Independent residencies in the Leighton Artists Studios offer you the ability to delve into your work as a solitary, self-directed retreat, as well as the option to engage within the larger artists’ community at Banff Centre through daily campus interactions, and attending talks and shows.

The nine unique studios are each designed by a distinguished Canadian architect and provide a perfect setting for individuals and collectives from a wide variety of artistic genres to create new work. Leighton artists contribute significantly to culture and the arts in Alberta, throughout Canada, and around the world.

The Creative Gesture - Designing for Dance 2019

Overview

This workshop is part of The Creative Gesture dance program. From Pablo Picasso for the Ballets Russes to choreographer Damien Jalet’s collaboration with Marina Abramovic, more and more visual artists, architects, fashion designers, and product designers are working with dance-based concepts and performers. 

This program will introduce designers of all disciplines to the fundamentals of designing for dance. Participants will utilize their own artistic ideas and concepts to transform the presentation of dance to future audiences and dancemakers.

The Creative Gesture - Collective Composition Lab for Music and Dance 2019

Program Overview

This residency is part of The Creative Gesture dance program. The residency, for choreographers, composers, and dancers, will focus on creativity through practices of collaboration, composition, and improvisation.

Moderated by internationally acclaimed faculty Michael Schumacher, Anne Bourne, Carla Kihlstedt, Ami Schulman and Program Director Emily Molnar, the Collective Composition Lab for Music and Dance will present a positive and concentrated research space. Choreographers and composers will explore the dialogue between dance and music, as well as exercise their research with the participating dancers.

The Creative Gesture - Dramaturgy for Dance 2019

Program Overview

To make sense of a world saturated by complex flows of energy, information, randomness, chance, and change, the human brain has become extremely sensitive to patterns and their disruption. Dramaturgy works with perception and meaning, and can be thought of as a relational practice – a way of understanding and navigating the complexities of the creative process with awareness and care.

Indulge in an affordable Self-Directed Artist Residency in the historic Caetani heritage house in Canada's wine country - the Okanagan Valley of BC. The self-directed residencies are open to emerging and established artists, writers and creatives (of all disciplines) for a timeframe between 2 weeks to 3 months.

Number of Participants

You are welcome to apply as an individual, as artistic collaborators, and as couples. Our 3 residencies consist of 3 private rooms sharing a second floor suite including bathroom, kitchen, living room, library and main floor entryway.
