Open Call for Last Minute Applications

We offer artists a peaceful space to work in solitude or with creative people from other countries, developing and exchanging ideas about contemporary art and culture.

There are a maximum of 5 artists in residency at any given time. The small cohort fosters personal connections. We discuss art and culture over aperitivo and visit art exhibitions in nearby towns. Florence is easily reached by public transport.

Artists work independently on a personal project while sojourning for 7 to 90 days in rural Tuscany.

La Macina operates all year-round, welcoming artists of all ages and nationalities. Resident artists are at various stages in their careers and work in all media.

OPEN CALL: VISIO-European Programme on Artists’ Moving Images

Lo Schermo dell’Arte presents the eleventh edition of VISIO-European Programme on Artists’ Moving Images, a research, residency and production programme dedicated to artists who use moving images in their artistic practice.

The project, curated by Leonardo Bigazzi, will be held in Florence in conjunction with the 15th Lo Schermo dell’Arte – Cinema and Contemporary Art Festival (November 15 – 20, 2022). The 8 participants will be young European artists who work with moving images; they will be selected through an open call organised in collaboration with some of Europe’s leading art academies, schools and artist residencies. The deadline to apply is Friday, September 9, 2022.

The Florence Dance Performing Arts Festival firmly believes in the artistic value of dance and performing arts, in the ability and possibility of creating a universal language and aims to be a channel through which future generations can be led in the determination of their own artistic identity. Research and dance development are its cornerstones, creating the basis for the evolution and deepening of contemporary art.
