In the context of its art and research residency program, ZK/U offers a ‘living & working’ space for artists, scholars, practitioners and professionals of various fields whose practice relates to the exploration and questioning of urban reality. ZK/U welcomes residency applications with proposals framed as contemporary artistic positions that are conceptual, interventionist and contextual, and as research and activism in the fields of urbanism, geography, anthropology, architecture and the humanities.

With collaborative practices and peer-to-peer learning at its core, the residency is about exchanging with and learning from other artists and practitioners. It is a space for urban experimentation where fellows connect through common themes and interests. Residents are encouraged to involve themselves with ZK/U’s programme and to propose their own formats.

Within the frame of this Open Call, applicants are encouraged to formulate their project proposals with the conceptual framework of ZK/U  in mind.

The ELEVEN Artist Residence is an international residency program for artists - located in Starzach-Börstingen, Germany. It is a self-administrated non-profit organisation. ELEVEN artspace wants to create an environment for inspiration – a place for artists where they can concentrate on their work, can experiment and play.

The residency program offers combined living and working spaces with private bedrooms for 1, 2 or 3 persons. The accommodations and workshops are situated in the former administrative offices of an old school (teachers' room, rector’s, student council room, classrooms, etc.). The rooms - most have a washbasin/sink - are simply furnished and could be occupied with 1-3 artists (depending on the room). Toilets and shower are located down the hallway. A fully-equipped community kitchen is also available as well as a patio with a BBQ possibility. By special arrangement there are various other spaces which can be used: a large communal studio (about 70m²), small work room, a small performance space incl. an old school piano, small drums, basic sound equipment. On the school grounds there are further opportunities: large walls, fields and forests, the Neckar valley and the river itself.

During the residency there are ample possibilities to present public artist discussions, readings, lectures, etc. A group exhibition takes place in august in the Town of Tübingen, 25 km away. The project as a whole is well-documented by the regional papers. Works-in-progress can be publicised in social media in cooperation with the artists.

The artist-in-residence program is only available between June 1st and September 30th. The duration of a residency is from one to two months. Rooms for “artists-on-tour” and shorter periods (< one month) can also be provided by special arrangements.

There are a few bikes available for rent.

Prizes Details:

In order to cover the costs of operation it is necessary that artists contribute financially to the housing costs – regulary between 250,- to 450,- EUR per month.

Open Call: VR Residency in Zeitz, Germany in September 2020

THIS IS FAKE is now accepting applications for a one month artist residency in Zeitz, Germany in September 2020.

Focussing on fundamental questions regarding the use of virtual reality in the arts, THIS IS FAKE is organising an artist residency and exhibition programme in the city of Zeitz in 2020. During two separate residencies (March and September), two artists and two members of THIS IS FAKE can use the space in a former pasta factory, known as »Nudel«, to work together. During the four-week-stay, the participating artists are provided with accommodation, material budget, a travel allowance of 150 euros, a shared studio / workspace and the necessary equipment during the four-week stay in Zeitz.

Deadline for applications is 1 April 2020.

In the run-up to the residency, the artists will work on various approaches for the collaboration in Zeitz in regular online sessions and — by means of a digital archive and sketchboards — exchange materials, texts and inspiration which will flow into the production phase in September.

Possible keywords are: the impact of image-based media, digital environments and social platforms, the understanding of the human body and human gesture, presence and their relationship to artificial entities, the dualism between physical and virtual worlds, questioning decision making, automation and algorithmic tools, qualities and nature of digital materials, the update-behaviour of virtual systems or generally image-induced visual culture. The participants' different points of view and locations (including Leipzig, London and Amsterdam) is a determining factor for the cyclical approach of research and conception in digital space, the experimentation and physical nature of the residency period in Zeitz, and ultimately the implementation in a touring exhibition format. Reflecting both the preceding digital working process and the results of the collaborative work in Zeitz, the exhibition is intended to be shown at further locations in Germany as well as the UK and the Neterlands.

The residency is aimed at artists who wish to work on a joint exploration of various aspects of virtual reality to investigate how a collaborative work in a digital environment manifests itself. The call is open to artists of any self-definition, institution and origin. In particular, the collective would like to motivate students and people from underrepresented groups in VR art to apply.

About THIS IS FAKE

THIS IS FAKE is a media art collective from Leipzig, founded in 2017, whose members focus on new media, with a particular interest in virtual reality.

The contextual framework that unifies the work and artistic research of the collective is a critical examination of contemporary digital technologies and their content, as well as their effects on the present and future of social contexts in which they are used. They understand artistic practice as mediation and research that brings together various practioners from art, science and beyond in order to develop perspectives and questions concerning contemporary discourses of digitisation.

The collective has realised several exhibition projects nationwide (e.g: "Schönheitsuniversum", Galerie Off Galaxy, Nuremberg, 2018, "The Transcendence Is Deceitful In All Dreams", Museum der Bildenden Künste, Leipzig, 2018 and "digital overload", Weltkunstzimmer, Düsseldorf, 2018). As a recent example, during the "Open VR Lab" as part of the exhibition "Good Friends", c/o Galerie Kunstpunkt (Berlin, 2017) and the autumn academy "Are Other Worlds Possible", Academy of Visual Arts (Leipzig, 2018), topics related to the keyword "immersion" and the associated techniques were examined theoretically and worked on practically in an experimental environment.

Location

The programme takes place in Zeitz, an industrial city in the south of Saxony-Anhalt with good connections to Leipzig, takes place in the studio spaces of an old pasta factory (Nudel), which is being converted into a 11,000 m2 creative center since 2016.

Nudel is a place for artists and professionals. In the lower part of the building there is a coworking space and several studios of freelance artists, as well as accommodations for residents and visitors. That makes the location an exciting field for creative exchange and artistic research.

Shared working space ~220m²
VR-Equipment 4 PCs + 4 VR systems (3 HTC Vive, 1 HTC Vive Pro)

Eligibility:

Applications are now open for the first of our series of Artist & Fashion curated jewellery exhibitions. Merging the worlds of Fashion, Jewellery & Art we launch a new, ongoing series of jewellery exhibitions in our Berlin based showroom.

Titled ‘Curated By’, AA-COLLECTED will be working with a selection of talented Artists and/or Designers to curate a series of jewellery exhibitions alongside exhibitions of the artists work.

As with our previous series at BACHT Showroom in Vienna, which was included in Vienna’s Schmuck Tage & Vienna City Gallery Walk we aim to disregard the border between Art & Fashion jewellery, pushing forward simply with our appreciation of design in the form of jewellery and looking to give artists of both disciplines opportunities in the two alternative worlds.

Curated By. LACY BARRY

Lacy Barry is a paper artist, she makes sculptural paper artworks in vibrant tactile colors. She will be exhibiting a series of wall hung works that consist of two components; physical 3D paper sculpted wings & florals against a printed canvas mural that looks something like a colorful light explosion or kaleidoscope.

Each work has an individual color story that is portrayed in combinations of colors and tactile structures.

Concept Call-out

"This curation is all about color and tactile structures portrayed in Jewellery & Art. In your submission you can use any single or combination of materials in your work so as long as it posses the aspects of Jewellery.

Pieces of adornment can be but do not have to solely consist of precious stones and metals, their composition can reach into further tactile materials such as acrylics, leather, velvets and so on.

The main attribute is that they are composed in vibrant color complimentary to the ‘Little Wing X Exploding Florals Series’ being exhibited."
