ABOUT CORRELACION CONTEMPORANEA
Correlacion Contemporanea is a self-management project that develops initiatives that question the current system of production, diffusion and research of contemporary art in Peru. Since 2016, Correlación Contemporánea aim is the exchange between students, young and professional artists, encouraging a space for horizontal dialogue in order to stimulate the creation of new possibilities in our artistic environment.

ABOUT COM UNIDAD RESIDENCE
COM UNIDAD is a virtual artistic residence based in Peru that proposes the creation of a collaborative network made up of cultural actors related to peruvian history, art and community practices, from traditional art to contemporary art, through the management of projects, artistic education and archaeological practices in order to generate the continuity of community work from a context of isolation and social distancing that the new normal proposes us.

The work program aims to rethink the development of community art practices through virtual strategies that build a network of community initiatives of creation, management or education based on the collective research of the main cultural, social and geographical axes of Peru.

For this purpose, COM UNIDAD, proposes a research work divided into three cycles, three regions and three months, in which the group made up of residents, collaborators and coordinators will carry out a constant exercise of dialogue, exchange and analysis of the forms of life and social organization that develop in the coast, andean and jungle of Peru.

RESEARCH AREAS:
> Contemporary art as an affective and community tool in rural areas.
> Cultural scene and autonomous management.
> Pre-Hispanic Peruvian culture (Cosmovision, language, rituals, and others).
> Post-pandemic community art.
 

DURATION:
The COM UNIDAD residence offers a residency program developed in 3 Months / Cycles* in total, which correspond to the 3 regions of the country:

1. COM UNIT - Amazonian jungle: three weeks
2. COM UNIT - Coast: three weeks
3. COM UNIT - Andean highlands: three weeks

*Participants can choose to carry one or two cycles separately

Founded in 2009, Arquetopia Foundation is an internationally established, award-winning nonprofit arts and cultural foundation with a social scope that emphasizes critical thinking through artistic practices. Our comprehensive, customized International Artist-in-Residence Programs are the largest and most reputable in Latin America, with an array of contents anchored in a solid structure of collaborations with prominent cultural institutions, renowned experts, and notable artists. We are invested in approaching art and art history with a critical perspective by understanding Mexico and Peru’s complexity in context and incorporating nuances in narratives and interpretation especially of the 3,000-year heritage of visual culture of these two countries. Arquetopia Peru is now welcoming applications for the following residency programs in the Sacred Valley of the Andes of Cusco, Peru. Click on each link below for program info on our website.

 

PART 1 – RESIDENCIES FOR ARTISTS & WRITERS (MENTORED, NON-INSTRUCTIONAL) – ALL SESSIONS IN 2021

 

1. Art, Design, or Photography Residency.
Flexible sessions of 4 to 12 weeks; various techniques.

2. Writers Residency.

Flexible sessions of 3 to 8 weeks.

 

PART 2 – ARTIST RESIDENCIES WITH MASTER TECHNIQUE INSTRUCTION – ALL SESSIONS IN 2021

 

3. Gold Leafing & Estofado Instructional Residency.
Learn Gold Leafing (Gilding) and Estofado techniques, with time for independent production. Extendable sessions of 3 weeks.

4. Natural Pigments Instructional Residency.
Learn to create and use a variety of Natural Pigments for fiber dyeing, with time for independent production. Extendable sessions of 3 weeks.

5. Peruvian Textiles Instructional Residency: Andean Weaving.
Learn traditional Andean Weaving, with time for independent production. Extendable sessions of 3 weeks.

6. Pre-Columbian Ceramics Instructional Residency.
Learn pre-Columbian Ceramics techniques, with time for independent production. Extendable sessions of 5 weeks.

Peruvian Amazon Storytelling Workshop Call for Applications

Real Lives Multicultural Association is inviting visual artists, filmmakers, photographers, writers, poets, artisans to apply for the

Peruvian Amazon Storytelling Workshop June 24th to July 04th 2020

For 10 days, 15 passionate writers, artists and filmmakers will be submerged in the density of the Peruvian Amazonas and the lives of the local Shawi. Guided by a diverse Team of acclaimed international creatives and Peruvian indigenous leaders, participants will be exposed to the raw nature of the rainforest, conflicting forces impacting indigenous communities and sustainable activities to address climate change.

Each participant will develop a short provocation/artwork under the guidance and supervision of the Team. Unlike other workshops, the local inhabitants will not be mere characters in these stories but will serve as mentors, project collaborators and cultural mediators. The process of creation will require some form of partnership between local and international storytellers in defining, style, method, message and culture.

The workshop will take place in various setting including the urban river-based culture of Iquitos, the tropical rainforest surroundings of the Allpahuayo Mishana Reserve, and the facilities of Formabiap’s indigenous bi-lingual education centre at Zúngarococha.
