VSA Playwright Discovery Competition

The 2021 VSA Playwright Discovery Award Program is now accepting 2021 applications.  High school students are invited to explore the disability experience through the art of writing for performance. Young writers with disabilities and collaborative groups that include students with disabilities are encouraged to submit short works written to be performed: plays, spoken word poetry (for single performer or a group), or music theater.

Writers must have a disability

U.S. writers must be grades 6-12 (or equivalents)

Non-U.S. writers age 11-18

Scripts may be for theater scripts, musicals, multimedia, video, film, or TV scripts, non-linear scripts or other writing for performance

VSA International Young Soloists Competition

Calling all musicians with disabilities, ages 14-25! 

Each year outstanding young musicians with disabilities from around the world receive the VSA International Young Soloists Award, $2,000, and the opportunity to perform and participate in professional development and music coaching activities provided by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.  

This program is open to soloists and ensembles of any instrument or genre!

“Us: What divides us and what unites us?” International Online Call for Entries

Founded in 1976, Touchstone Gallery, Washington, DC is seeking entries for an international online juried show “Us: What divides us and what unites us?” scheduled to exhibit online September 11 - October 30, 2020.

DC Local Artists Wanted for Public Mural

Living Classrooms Foundation of the National Capital Region (Living Classrooms) seeks a muralist to create conservation-themed murals for five cement bridge panels along the Benning Road Ethel Kennedy Bridge near the Benning Road entrance to Kingman and Heritage Islands. Kingman Island is an incredible natural resource and recreation area and was designated a state conservation area by Mayor Muriel Bowser in 2018. 

2019 National Small Works Competition & Exhibition

Washington Printmakers Gallery seeks small works for an exhibit in Washington DC.
Grand Prize is a 2020 Solo Exhibition in the fashionable Georgetown neighborhood. Other prizes include a $500 cash prize and art materials gift certificates. Juror is respected curator JD Talasek, the director of Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences.

Eligible works: Hand-pulled prints, screen prints, digital prints, photographs, and three-dimensional work (including artist books) with print components completed within the past two years. Image may be no larger than 100 square inches, with framed size of 256 square inches or less. 3D works are limited to 250 cubic inches. Open to artists 18 years and older. 
 

Call for Entries "America Is ..." National Juried Show, Touchstone Gallery, Washington, DC

Founded in 1976, Touchstone Gallery, located in a modern street-level space in downtown Washington, DC is seeking entries for "America Is ..." a National Juried Show scheduled for August 2 - 29, 2019. Artists are asked to submit artwork that will Explore, Ask and Answer: What is America today?
