Wells Art Contemporary - Gallery Show

Exhibition: Wells Cathedral, Somerset, and online. An additional exhibition of 2023 prizewinning work will be held at GBS Fine Art during September.

Awards: up to £2,000 in cash prizes plus artist residency, further gallery exhibitions, mentoring, art materials, etc.

Wells Art Contemporary 2021

Established in 2012 by artists for artists, Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) is an open competition for visual art. 

Based in the beautiful cathedral city of Wells, Somerset, this yearly exhibition aims to support creatives, stimulate debate, and push the boundaries of the visual arts scene both nationally and internationally. 

WAC gives contemporary artists the opportunity to show their work within Wells Cathedral, which welcomes 300,000 visitors a year.

All artists, all styles, all techniques and all nationalities are encouraged to take part in the open exhibition. 

Creatives over the age of 18, based in the UK or internationally can enter up to 4 works in any medium – painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, installation or video.

It was established in 2012 by a group of artists and their friends in Wells, the beautiful cathedral city in the South-West of England. This idea that came to life around a kitchen dining table has already established a strong presence in the London art world and is drawing artists from places as diverse as Australia, Azerbaijan, India, Italy, Korea, Japan and the United States, as well as all over Britain.

The Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) Awards is an international open competition for contemporary visual arts which has already established a strong presence in the London art world and which is drawing artists from places as diverse as Australia, Azerbaijan, India, Italy, Korea, Japan and the United States. Open to artists working in painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, installation or video, the WAC Awards aims to stimulate debate, challenge and provoke, pushing the boundaries of the visual arts scene both nationally and internationally. We are delighted to announce that the 2019 shortlisted works will be exhibited at an exciting new venue, Wells Cathedral, set in the medieval heart of England’s smallest city.
