This role will support the Exhibition Series which showcases a broad spectrum of contemporary artwork at home in the SOMA gallery. Director Tova Lobatz guides the programming, working directly with artists to present solo shows, group shows and exhibitions that often feature site-specific installations.

 

About the role:

You must be a fast-learner, self-starter, meticulously organized, dedicated art lover who strives in a fast-paced environment and has excellent interpersonal skills who prioritizes the artist and their creative process. This role will wear a lot of hats and will be directly assisting the director/curator. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about the art world, galleries, and must have 2-3 years of experience art handling, shipping artwork and proficiency in administrative tasks/Google Suite. You will be able to self-manage the administrative and installation tasks that need to be completed for each show, as well as attending weekly check-in meetings with the director.

 

Duties include:

 

-coordinating installations every 5 weeks, shipping sold and unsold artwork

- attending openings on weekends, covering gallery viewings during the week and weekends, special events such as artist talks and rentals

- administrative tasks such as making pricelists, labels, and keeping track of inventory

-assisting in planning and coordinating exhibitions

- hanging artwork

-shipping artwork

-sending invoices to collectors and maintaining inventory documents

-maintaining relationships with press and sending media kits

- marketing: social media posts, writing press releases, calendar listings

-organizing and cleaning gallery

 

You will have: 

-2-3 years of experience in arts-related field as an art handler 

-Knowledge or willingness to learn about contemporary art

-Experience hanging and shipping artwork

-Proficient administrative and organizational skills with great attention to detail.

-Strong and clear verbal and written communication skills

-Must be able to work well in a fast-paced environment alone, and as part of a team, while taking on simultaneous projects. 

-Must be proficient using Google Docs, and Photoshop.
