CPR – Center for Performance Research is seeking an Arts Administration Intern. This internship provides pre-professional artists and art administrators from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to gain experience across nonprofit arts development, marketing, programming, and general operations. The Arts Administration intern will be supervised by CPR’s Director, and will work closely to support the Director, Studio Associate, and Operations Associate in executing long-term and short-term projects. The intern will be provided with extensive training, support, and supervision from CPR Staff, becoming equipped at tasks pertaining to arts admin in arts nonprofit upon finishing their internship.

The intern will become familiar with CPR’s rental contract and procedures, performances, artists opportunities, and general operations in order to give prompt and friendly customer service to walk-up visitors and over the phone. The intern will be trained in Quickbooks, WordPress, MailChimp, Google Suite, and basic marketing with social media. Responsibilities include developmental research aimed towards organizational growth, upkeep and maintenance of office and studio spaces, inputting box office report data, and preparation of marketing materials. Occasional running of errands and light cleaning will be required. The staff at CPR is small, therefore every staff member and intern has the unique opportunity to become involved in the different branches of a nonprofit arts organization.

This position offers the right intern the opportunity to work with organizations around the globe, and to learn the ins-and-outs of the public relations, communication, marketing, copy writing, social media management and corporate communications.

This internship is unpaid and remote. Course credit will be considered. Students from around the world are welcome to apply, but ones from US and Canada are preferred.

Responsibilities

This position requires a highly organized, self-motivated individual with a pleasant phone manner, and excellent social skills. Previous experience in casting or representation is helpful, but not required.

Our office hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-6pm. This internship is a great opportunity to have a hands-on experience in the casting process and has the possibility of developing into a paid position. This internship is unpaid.

Gallery Assistant Internship Position:

This internship is designed to familiarize you with standard practices in small commercial galleries. You will have the chance to meet and interact with artists, catalogue and organize loaned and sold works, learn how to create printed and written materials that correspond to exhibitions and public events and represent a professional gallery.

Your responsibilities include:

-Advertising new exhibitions through Chicago Artists Resource, Chicago Reader, TimeOut, social media, etc…

-Maintaining email correspondence with: artist inquiries to be considered in future shows, submission materials, inquiries about the gallery, inquiries about the renting of space

-Attending and facilitating exhibition receptions

-Creating drafts of printed materials (press release, promotional postcards, website updates, email blasts, flyers) for public distribution

-Maintaining a professional attitude while in the gallery and assisting with sales of art or records. (Additionally, you will make sure to keep accurate records of all sales made while you are there)

-Checking in and checking out loaned artwork
 
You can expect:

-a regular schedule of  1-6pm Saturdays and possibly 6-10pm on the night of each opening reception (usually Friday or Saturday nights).

-a share of the commission of sales that you make for-commission exhibitions, 15% pretax

-a new knowledge of gallery practices

-open opportunity to excel with responsibilities, organize and execute exhibits, curate and take charge of private events, rental opportunities and general day to day operations. 

This is suitable for a student or retiree, its not an hourly position.

Program Intern — 2019

NAVEL seeks a Program Intern, who will work closely with the programming director on administrative, production and research tasks related to the public programming, including the ASSEMBLIES program and Collective Residency. A good candidate will be detail-oriented and capable of self-management.

Candidates with strong writing, research and organizational skills are especially encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities and tasks include:

-Assist with research, project development, management and production for all public programming

-Write and edit open calls, press releases and statements for public programs and The Meeting Room exhibitions

-Coordination and communication with programming committee and collective residents

-Participate in the review of project proposals

Qualifications include:

-Precise, detail-oriented work ethic

-Experience working with cultural organizations

-Excellent research and organizational skills

-Proficient skills with office software, spreadsheet analysis, database management and adobe suite (preferably)

-Ability to multitask, work independently, and take initiative

-Curiosity and interest in NAVEL’s mission, community and programs

Commitment: 12-20 hours/week on site (flexible, will vary according to program schedule). Expected to attend and assist with the majority of the programming season events (September through November 2019). 3 months minimum commitment with possibility to extend after 3-month period. The position is unpaid, although college credit may be arranged if needed, and additional paid opportunities from time to time.

 

Communications and Outreach Intern — 2019

NAVEL seeks a Communications and Outreach Intern who will work closely with the Programming Director and Communications and Outreach Manager to populate and update a range of communication channels, develop relations with press and carry specific tasks related to outreach within the local community and other organizations. This opportunity will engage a full range of marketing skills, but the emphasis is on social media, press relations and outreach. A good candidate will be detail-oriented and capable of self-management.

Candidates with strong writing, research, organizational and graphic design/visual skills are especially encouraged to apply.

Tasks may include:

-Assisting with the development and maintenance of Navel’s relationship with press

-Adapting and sharing program information for and with different audiences

-Developing relationships and communicating with other like-minded cultural organizations

-Outreach: distributing flyers and sharing information about NAVEL in the South Park neighborhood

Qualifications include:

-Precise, detail-oriented work ethic

-Excellent research and organizational skills

-Ability to write for multiple lengths, contexts and audiences

-Capable editorial hand

-Fluency with social media and email marketing

-Ability to multitask, work independently, and take initiative
