The Art Educator is a vital member of the Education Team and is responsible for implementing educational programs in accordance with KidsQuest Children’s Museum’s educational philosophy, lesson plans, and classroom standards. The Art Educator will maintain the high quality of our programs by providing museum visitors with engaging, process-oriented, creative experiences in the KQCM Art Studio, and by bringing art to life throughout the museum. This position utilizes an expert background in ceramics and fine arts in an informal learning environment, and must exhibit adaptability, a love of working with the public, and enthusiasm for teaching.

Responsibilities and Duties
Programming 70%

  • Plan and facilitate free and paid visual arts programs in the Art Studio, including Little Picasso and Summer Camps
  • Oversee program implementation done by other Museum Educators in the Art Studio
  • Oversee all kiln firing and manage kiln schedule
  • Collaborate with Education Manager to develop clay and art related programs and coordinate outside artists and partners
  • Maintain working order of the Art Studio, its equipment, and supply and material inventory
  • Instruct art-based outreach programs through our Field Trips to Go program
  • Develop content and secure vendors for annual Art-Tastic event
  • Facilitate activities at education and development event as requested

Visitor Experience 30%

  • Model exceptional educational approaches and train visitor experience staff and volunteers
  • Interact and react positively in a fast paced environment
  • Work alongside educators and visitor experience staff to keep spaces functional and inviting
  • Implementation of art, science, early learning, and other programs as needed including but not limited to leading field trips and museum gallery enhancement activities
  • Manage pick-ups of patron creations after firing

Perform other related duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3 years’ experience with ceramics and kiln management required
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or fine arts preferred
  • Comfortable leading children birth to ten years old, adults, and seniors in hands-on art experiences, using a variety of mediums
  • Experience educating children in classroom or informal learning environments preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of individuals including teens, children, parents, and individuals of all ages with special needs
  • Friendly, outgoing, and enthusiastic personality
  • Detail oriented and extremely reliable
  • Ability to main current driver’s license required
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, work outdoors, move from ground to above shoulder, ascend/descent stairs, position self to bend, stoop, sit, push, and pull

In order to serve the best interest of museum patrons, KQCM will:

  • Conduct a criminal background check on all prospective employees
  • Require proof of immunizations within thirty days of employment
  • Require certification in Adult, Child and Infant CPR, First Aid, and AED
