Arthousehaus Open Call

We are hosting a London based Open Call for an exhibition in the home.

No theme, no restrictions on medium, we are open to all existing or new work.

We are opening the kitchen, living space, bathroom, windows and vestibule areas for installations. The space is very open and can accommodate a wide variety of works. We encourage conceptual and imaginative installation proposals, feel free to consider utilising cupboards/drawers, projecting onto glass or window shades.

Examples of types of work accepted will be sculpture (small/mid-size), photography, paintings, projections, installations, books, zines, performance (opening night only, details to be negotiated).

"Roots: Up Rooted

ABOUT. An artist's artistic, geographic, and cultural roots play significant roles in their artistic process and statement. This year's tag line aims to include work the grew from current events and how they affected the process of making for the artist. The exhibit will highlight original fine art inspired by an artist's perspective of their "roots" and artistic journey. Interpretations of the theme may be broad and entries are not limited to representational works.

ELIGIBILITY. The ROOTS Exhibit is open to artists 18 years of age and older.

MEDIA. Ceramics, Drawing, Fiber, Glass, Installation Art (proposals accepted), Metal, Mixed Media, Multimedia, Painting, Papermaking, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Textiles, and Wood.

The Place called Home

Artists are invited to submit work that explores the concept of HOME through many lenses.

Peace, security, safety, and opportunity are all words describing the place called HOME. In essence, HOME is a concept, a comforting idea that we create for emotional sustenance. Across the world people travel to and from places both near and far; often risking everything in search of a place to live without threats or fear. They search for the manifestation or fulfillment of this idea, often forced to do so; at other times voluntarily. Self-identity may be redefined by the blending of many cultures as new roots are established. And then there is the juxtaposition of so many others who take HOME for granted. This show aims to explore this theme through many lenses.

Group Exhibition in Rome city. July 2020

This call intends to collect works that address the theme of "home", from its symbolic and conceptual conception to the exposition of an experience. "Home" as a concept linked to a safe and familiar environment, a refuge for our person, a social clothing that contains the warmth and energy of those who live there (q. M. McLuhan), or again, an environment that reflects our being in the world and the fluid changes of life, but also a place where we often find traces of the past, where emotional involvement is implicit in the experience we have in it.
