"First step" - A multidisciplinary Zine

After a long pandemic that is still ongoing, it's time to take a small "first step" towards something new. The theme of our Zine's first issue is called  "First step" for a reason. We don't want to focus on isolation and quarantine anymore, we want to celebrate creativity in its nascent form. "First step" is open to any interpretation. It could mean the first poem you wrote, the first picture from a larger project, the first time you tried a new technique and succeeded, or even the first words from your novel. We want to encourage you to share your creation with confidence.

We accept the following formats: photography, painting, design, sculpture, poetry, and short essays.

Flash Fiction Competition

To help one emerging writer pass from one stage of their writing journey to the next, we’re running a flash fiction competition for previously unpublished writers.

Entries must be an original work of flash fiction (1,000 words or under) and can be written on any topic. This competition is for unpublished writers only. People who have self-published their work on a personal blog or website are welcome to enter.

The competition opens on May 10, and closes at midnight CET on June 20, 2021. Any entries sent after this time will not be accepted. We ask for a small entry fee of 2€*.

ConTEXT III

The Foundry Art Centre is seeking submissions for “ConTEXT III,” an all media exhibition focusing on the written word’s role in the visual arts. The power of words cannot be overstated. Contemporary society is saturated with media and this exhibition showcases how intertwined the literary and visual arts are. We must ask ourselves how the words we read, and how we read them, impacts our understanding of the world. We ask artists ‘What happens when the visual arts and literary arts are fused?’
