Fine Grit: Art & Ideas In Wood

Fine Grit is a national juried exhibition of contemporary artists who use wood as a primary material in their work. From traditional techniques such as hand carved sculpture, woodcuts and pyrography to more recent technologies such as laser engraving and 3D printing, artists have long used wood as a source material and medium. Wood comes directly from nature and each piece has its own unique lifecycle, evident in the processes artists and other makers utilize while working with it.

Particular interest will be given to artists who consider the origin of their materials and who use wood as subject matter, addressing topics such as forestry, ecology, architecture, human consumption and the changing climate.

Pulp: Wood, Paper & Print

The artworks are not limited to these mediums but must highlight and be 50% or more derived from these mediums.

***This is not a "work on paper" exhibition painting, collage and drawing on paper is not included in this call.***

Sculpture X, Form Finding in the 21st Century

Sculpture X

Form Finding for the 21rst century

William Paterson University workshop and residency

June 3, 2021- June 17, 2021

THE WORKSHOP

Imagine being in a group of like-minded creatives working in proximity to create sculpture carved by robot but finished by your hand? We seek to bring together artists, sculptors, designers, architects, and curators to explore robot carving in wood. Working around other artists can inspire and motivate as you discover ideas in a speculative, constructive context.  It’s an opportunity to discover new ideas as well as work with new technologies. That's the spirit and tone that Sculpture X: Form Finding for the 21st Century seeks to provide.
