Supernova Digital Animation Festival 2020 - WORLD ON FIRE

Supernova Digital Animation Festival - World on Fire

Denver Digerati is accepting artist submissions through FilmFreeway for the 5th annual Supernova Digital Animation Festival, the world’s only festival dedicated to artists working with digital animation and motion-based art, hosted in Denver, Colorado. The Supernova Festival focuses on a wide array of motion-artworks created by individual artists or teams using computer software as the focal development of their work. “World on Fire” is the theme for Supernova 2020, supporting the need for a much greater collective consciousness across all critical paths and intersections with humanity.

Supernova’s day of in-competition programming will take place on Saturday, September 19th, with additional art activations and hosted events throughout September. Supernova is presented by Denver Digerati, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with the mission to advance digital motion-art through exhibition and education, accelerating the merger of art and technology.

Supernova’s explosion of digital animation and motion-art captivates thousands of Colorado residents and visitors across a network of large scale outdoor public LED displays and partner venues in the Denver Theatre District, including a month-long takeover of Night Lights Denver, on the iconic Daniels & Fisher Tower.

"The whole concept and execution of this fest is great. I love how the public outside screenings allow the films to mix with the sounds and happenings of the urban environment (not unlike a John Cage indeterminacy composition). I think every film was enriched through this juxtaposition. Though cinema is a powerful art form, there is always a strange backdrop of intangibility compared to the more tactile nature of some other arts. The outside screening sort of solidified the experience in a way, giving cinema (the intangible) a body of sorts. The result is electrifying." - Michael Edwards, 2019 Supernova Competition participating artist
