Project Background

Portsmouth is a city surrounded by the sea. Changes to the health of the ocean have an impact on the city, from pollution to rising sea levels we are as affected as the creatures that live in the water.

A nine-month long project is working with people across the city to produce a large-scale immersive audio-visual installation and theatre performance inspired by the ‘Octopus Medicine’ poems by Becci Louise. This will encourage audiences to develop a connection with the ocean, both as an otherworld and an eco-system upon which our own, terrestrial lives, thoroughly rely.

2022 Open Juried Exhibition

WHAT DOES THE EAST END MEAN TO YOU?

This open juried exhibition provides artists the opportunity to showcase works that depict their feelings about the East End of Long Island.

To celebrate EEA's 50th year, the jurors of the 2022 East End Arts Open Juried Exhibition will select fifty pieces that they feel best convey the artists' intentions and show originality of visions.

This exhibition welcomes all mediums and sizes. In addition to fine art, sculpture, and photography, we encourage digital, literary, audible, musical, video, film, fashion, et al. Works must be the artist's original design and concept.

This is a national open call, however the subject matter must connect to the East End of Long Island.

terra (n.)
Latin, "earth," from the Proto-Indo-European root *ters- which means "to dry."

SOIL is 2022 NAHR’s focus. Fellows will explore the critical function of soil from a range of natural, ecological, social, political and ecosystem perspectives, and reflect on the impacts of soil health and soil degradation.

More than 75% of the earth’s soil is substantially depleted, while the remaining 25% is of inestimable value. (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) Report from 2018)
