This is an OPEN CALL Poster Design Competition with a winning prize of $500.00. The winning image will be used immediately for the BSFFF 2022 poster artwork as well as multiple promotional opportunities leading up to the beginning of the festival. Additional artists will be selected for the Virtual Online Group Show on the BSFFF website opening October 3rd, 2022. Images of artworks will be taken directly from individual Artist Profiles and may be used for promotion on the RSOAA and BSFFF social media platforms. The BSFFF Poster Design Competition is open to all mediums. The artwork chosen should be able to be printed 36" x 24". A standard movie poster one sheet design, otherwise known as comp file, is 6000 pixels high by 4050 pixels wide at 150dpi.

This is a physical OPEN CALL exhibition that will open at The Royal @ The Royal Society of American Art on December 17, 2021. Artists selected for the exhibition will be included on the RSOAA website and social media platforms.

The Small Works exhibition is open to all artists who are able to deliver their artwork to the gallery. This will be a salon style show and installation - just in time for the holidays. Artworks should be 12" x 12" and smaller, be ready to hang, and can be sold for $500.00 or less. Artists will receive 50% commission on the sale of their artwork. Artworks sold will be able to be taken home by the collector immediately upon payment.

OPEN CALL for NYC Artist: 2021 Fall Season Art Gallery

The Juice Box’s October Black aims to be an educational and creative resource anthologizing the soul of the vast diversity within Blackness. This is to engage a diverse public in the exploration of the resilience and contoured beauty of “Black”. October Black seeks to provoke memorable, immersive artistic thought through offering art rich in African diasporic history, traditions and experiences. October Black also seeks to offer artists (both visual and performing arts) an opportunity to have their work actualized.

ENTRY GUIDELINES

Art submissions must speak to the heart and soul of the Black experience by emphasizing its diversity and complexity. Artwork must also have an overture of hope and optimism as expressed in the “triumphs of our experiences”. This exhibit’s mission is to inspire and curate the Black artistic narrative through innovative fine art techniques. Preference will be given to artist who:

  • NYC resident,
  • Identify as a Black woman, 
  • Teaching Artists,
  • Arts based advocates and/or involved in civic engagement
  • Rising Artist, who have not had their first solo exhibit
  • Artwork with Afrofuturistic undertones
  • Short-Film/Documentary/Film Artists

The deadline for entries and applicants is October 10th at 11:59pm. Selected artists will be notified within a week of the submission date. 

There is NO entry fee. Selections will be made based on images and information submitted on the entry form.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Please be prepared to include the following information in the entry form:

  • Artist Information
  • Full Name
  • Mailing Address 
  • Email Address 
  • Phone Number 
  • Artist Biography (Maximum 100 words)
  •  Artwork / Image Information  (Minimum 1 artworks submissions / Maximum 3 artwork submissions) 
  • Title 
  • Year of Completion
  • Materials and Techniques Used
  • Measurements (Length x Width x Depth in Inches) 
  • Retail Price
  • Statement About the Work (Maximum 75 words for each work)

One full size image and one detail image per artwork. The images must be professional quality JPEG images in 2400 x 3000 pixels. Images must be smaller than 5MB.
 

TERMS OF ENTRY
Photography and Permissions
The artist verifies he/she owns or has copyright(s) to the artwork being submitted or on loan and therefore, allows the guest curator to display the artwork in its galleries during the exhibition dates. The artists provide approval to Black Pulp to photograph or use submitted photographs of the artwork for advertising, educational or archival purposes online and in print without monetary compensation. Images of artwork may be cropped to fit advertisements and credits will be included when possible. The artwork will remain the property of the artist unless sold on behalf of the artist by Black Pulp. If not sold, all artwork must be picked up or have proper return shipping material within 60 days after the last day of the exhibition.

Black Pulp’s commission is to be 20% of the sales price. (Price Limit: $ 2,000) For information about insurance and compensation, will be given upon selection.

Transportation and Shipping

The artist is responsible for the transportation of the artwork to the gallery location.   

If artist decides to use a shipping company for the pickup and delivery of the artworks, the artist recognizes the risk of damage during transit. If the artist requests to have the artworks shipped back, the artist must provide a pre-paid shipping label (UPS, FedEx or DHL). The artist must ship the artwork in a re-usable shipping container(s). Black Pulp is not responsible for damage occurred in shipping to or from The Gallery.  
 

FUNDING

October Black is made possible by the New York City Artist Corps. Black Pulp will be responsible for general installation support and basic in house advertising but does not necessarily fund all/additional exhibit needs. Potential exhibitors should be prepared with a budget and potential funds for special installations.

Potato Barn Gallery invites you to submit your artwork for an opportunity to participate in our residency and upcoming exhibitions.

The gallery will advertise and promote the selected artists and host a formal Opening Reception for the exhibition, including Artist Talks. 

If you are looking for gallery representation, studio space and to have a show in Brooklyn New York, submit your work and present it to the public, gallery directors, curators and collectors. 

The Barn is an artist run space dedicated to bringing people together located in a 3k square foot space in Greenpoint Brooklyn NY 

 

Who Can Participate: 

Artists, designers, engineers or creatives from any discipline who require time and space for creative work. 

Residences of in New York Metropolitan / Brooklyn area

Professional gallery experience preferred 

Team player 

 

Duration of residency: 3 months

Hours of committed to the gallery: 25

Studio accommodations: Shared studio

 

Expectations for the artist:

• Acting as an ambassador for Potato Barn Gallery. 

• In collaboration with our team write Press Release, checklists, cataloging, condition reports, and any other documentation relevant for the field Gallery’s success.

•Assist in curating upcoming show art handling 

• Attends weekly meetings, as well as occasional programming events. 

• Performs other related duties as required. Helping to proactively resolve issues that may arise.
